I've got a 596 with Scart out.
According to the M website, it will output component video through the Scart socket (albeit non-standard component).
Does anyone know any more about this non-standard component?? Is it due to pin configuration??
Also, could I get a lead made up to connect the Scart out (component) to the VGA in on a plasma screen (assuming the VGA on the plasma is component-capable).
If not, does anyone know how much it would cost to have my 596 converted from the Scart version to the BNC version??
If neither of these options are possible, I will have to go down the route of upgrading my 596 to Progressive Scan, as this would give me the BNC component out!
Thanks in advance Chez

The component is non standard as it is available via SCART. If you have a lead that is SCART to 3 phono wired to give RGB output then the same lead will give component on 3 phono if the 596 output is set to component.
So I think the answer is yes you can get component input to a plasma screen if you have the right lead and you set the correct 596 output.

Thanks Whitecot.
Can anyone else confirm this (ie. has anyone actually used component out via scart on a 596??)
Thanks Chez

Adzman, a member of this forum has used a SCART 596 with a Loewe Aconda, which supports YUV over SCART IIRC.
He did send his 596 back to have the SCART board replaced with the BNC board though.

"If you want Component out then you must set the output of the scart machine to component. Normally Scarts contain RGB this is why it says Component on scart is non standard but if you have a lead made up then it will work fine so long as you setup the player to do component"

Adzman - Thanks. I knew how much the Progressive conversion was, I thought you had just had it converted from scart to bnc (ie. without a prog. upgrade).
Does anyone know if M can convert from scart to bnc (without upgrading the video components) and how much it would cost??

Chez.
I originally wanted to do the same as you. At the time, M were reluctant to swap the video board. It was only when the 596 upgrades were announced that they confirmed they would swap them over. By this time, i thought i'd get the DCDI as well, so paid the dual price. I dont know how much a straight SCART/BNC swap would be. Get in touch with them mate
