Over the years, I've purchased: 2 x 568 2 x 504 562v2 596 800 861 DSP6000 (pr) DSP8000 (pr) DSP5000 (pr) DSP5000C DSP5500HC D2500 4 x D33 (pr) D33C more cables, patch boxes, and what-nots than I can count.
All of those were purchased new, from one well-respected dealer (who I am still friendly with). This kind of purchase history (by no means unique here) makes it clear that Meridian are making a very costly commercial mistake in the way they relate to the Hitchhikers.

However, I bought one of the last pairs of non speakerlink 5200s, and because of this Meridian would not replace them with a new pair of 5200s as they only had speakerlink, but I think that is pretty poor. The fact was they were faulty, it was not the dealers fault that they had changed the spec. of the speaker, and the dealer shouldn't have had to take the hit on it. @gIzze Isn't there more to this story than you are letting on? IIRC you have mentioned on this forum a while back that you bought your new 5200's really cheap as they were the last non SL 5200's around. And I have a copy of a PM to me when you were haggling over the price of my 5200's that I was selling, you stated that a dealer had a pair coming at 3000 and said that another dealer a year previously had a new pair on hold for you at 3250. So either this was BS to get me to drop my price or you got a real bargain. I did get them cheap, paid 3250 for them. However, Meridian wanted me to wait 4 months for a repair. At which point I said I was happy to have one of their demo pairs, they had been doing the road shows with them, and would have had any colour. Or just swap them for the newer ones and if I need to make a contribution let me know how much. At the end of the day, I wasn't fussed, I just wanted some speakers, I had gone back to 2 channel and my TV is a panny PHD8, so no tuner, no speakers built in. I even bought an F80 off the dealer (at a good price) to tide me over but then they realised that the other store had sold the last one. I was just trying to work out some options. Meridian would not let the dealer return the faulty item for credit, they would only repair, which in my mind is wrong, if something is DOA they should take it back and credit them. The speakerlink thing made no difference to me at all, I couldn't care less and didn't want to pay more to hav something I was not going to ever use, the point was, because they had added speakerlink they no longer wanted to take on their responsibility in taking the speakers back in and issuing a credit. Which simply changed my opinion of them. Dealer did do the right thing, and I had no issue with them, and no real issue with Meridian, I wasn't pissed off, I didn't get worked up over it, it simply changed my opinion of Meridian as a company and made me rethink future M purchases. After all, it is only a bit of Hi-Fi.

After all, it is only a bit of Hi-Fi. Yes, and I'm as guilty as anyone in forgetting this. Companies come and go with regularity in this market area (TAG McLaren, for example, the "lifestyle" luxury hifi company) and Meridian have no special immunity from market forces. If they chose to take a course of action which causes them to fail commercially it will be unfortunate but that will be all. We can then all stand around saying "We warned them."

My previous post notwithstanding, I have to acknowledge that on the two occassions that I have had to send in my second-hand, out-of-warranty F80 (most recently in June), in spite of the frighteningly dissuasive repair quotes, there has never been any charge. In the last instance they replaced the faulty DVD drive. So credit where credit's due.

I bought a 598 purchased in New York into Meridian UK to be looked at and they sent it back sorted FOC too, and when a product comes back you are always happy again, because they always seem to do the right thing in the end. But this thread was about how much we all appreciate Duncs efforts and the efforts of everyone who keeps this place going, and I mearly pointed out that I have far more faith in getting my issues sorted with folk on here these days than I do with Meridian themselves. The whole, boxed it up, take it to a dealer and send it to us to look at is just not something I am into. Especially when it could be resolved with a 5 minute phone call 9 times out of 10, or coming on here and asking.

Without the forum, I would exit. That's why I am so appreciative to Duncs and all those who do so much here. Thank you, thank you and thank you.

+1 Again here. Without this site I would not have been a Meridianite. I wouldn't have forked out for a GO2, G08 and 2 G57s. Also, I would not have bought a pair of DSP5500s WITHOUT listening to them first. That was how much confidence this forum gave me to not ony purchase Meridian again, but to do so without listening to the product - now that is some heavy confidence in something I have never heard myself before from the say so and in depth discussions of all the members here. Now, methinks, Meridian needs to have the same confidence - as we do, in this valuable forum, and also take the advice/recommendations/critique that has been "freely" given to them here. The users here, are providing valuable, cost free and critically insiteful advice/recommendations/critique/development ideas. Other companies pay a great deal of monies for this, indeed companies even have spies to gather this type of imformation from their competitors. I mean we have George who developed the 3bB tweak, the reviver to fill a niche, someone who makes custom stands for the DSPs, even at one point a member gave us the apodising feature before Meridian, indeed we are still waiting from Meridian. Theres no point mentioning the delays of certain things from Meridian as this has been covered time and time again. I try not to think of Bob's now infamous quote that MalcomW revived earlier in the thread: "Maybe Bob Stuart's famous quote at HH1, "We are not stupid", is not so believable now." So thank you all that helped me, thanks to George, Duncan and MODs VK, Carl for keeping the site going, and lastly long live Meridianunplugged.com!!!!

Ok, credit where credit is due; I sent in a G57 in for repair which had one faulty channel. The result? FOC repair for an out of warranty product and delivered FOC to the dealers. Leaving the hornets nest that was the dealer service, I must say this was great service. It is, however, worrying regarding the changes to the old service vs the new. Dealer contact gives me the frights with the dealer that I have near me. I can't just download firmware if and when needed - again I am filled with fright because of dealer contact which I really do not want. And the frightfully high cost of repairs which, in the case of you guys who bought items with well known power supply issues, is just a big nono IMO with ref to "service". I'm practically knocking knee's together here
