So really in the end, what is the benefit of upgrading to 2.59 over the older version 2.12? Because after 9 pages of input, if you don't make it work, we're coming round to bludgeon you to death! Cheers George

Oh, one thing. The frame delay feature was removed from the v2.5 software, but not the legacy configuration tool. Don't attempt to use it.

Fundamentally, preset wise, v2.12 works like your old 568, v2.5 works like a G6x or recent 861 (post v3.5). That is with v2.5, format decode is largely transparent to the user. Under the bonnet, v2.5 is significantally different to v2.12 as it marks the point when Meridian unified the code with 861 and G series, hence as mentioned above, it inherited some of enhancements, and defects, of the newer processors.

Brothers and sisters. I surrender. I'm done. I quit . I have spent the better part of a week futzing around with this update and I CAN TAKE IT NO MAS.
Last night I loaded the update. Got the correct message "bad EEprom", than Typed in my setting , turned off. Powered off, powered on . All good. Used Legacy and finally found a port that loaded everything "Successful". Went to play some music to check it out and after a few turning off and on the 568.2 I started to see Sometimes but not every time after power up "Bad software" I think the b in 2.5b9 is for "bad". It just won't hold things in place and believe me I've tried.
Could be the fault of this unit I bought on Audiogon last week but thats a different issue. So for now I have no choice other to load 2.12 and see how that works or the seller and I are going to have a serious talk. If 2.12 works stable it should still be an upgrade from my trusty 568.
Thank you all so much for the help. I'm to poor to buy the new high end of Meridian so I am limited to the trying to find my way with non supported Legacy.
But the most important thing I learned here is many of you are patient, giving, helpful folks and it is appreciated. Your terrific.
Hell if you guys were here I would by a few rounds.
Keep in touch

Looking back at my settings in the Legacy config program, what will be the difference if I choose "small DSP" for my DSP33s versus small 96.24 DSP?

You'll lose upsampling, as the 568.2mm output will be limited to 48kHz instead of 96kHz. You'd also force downsampling of any 96kHz material. So in short, you'd lose some refinement to the sound and there's no point doing it. An older pre 96/24 DSP5000 horizontal speaker would need that setting though.
Cheers

OK I'm back at it again. Here is where I stand.
Trusty old 568 (1.5) works well, 5.1 and both subs working as they should.
I went back to the 568.2mm and with the original 2.12 software downloaded, using Legacy config it works great as well. Both D1500 subs are also correct.
Download and installed 2.5b9, typed in 5.1DDD, turned off then on . Display confirms it 2.5b9, great!. Go to Legacy program and configure the speakers exactly as I did with the 2.12 program. Named it, saved it, then stored it. Retyped 5.1DDD just to be sure. Turn off unit. Turned it on . The name I gave it is correct followed by a flash of "bad software".
Subs didn't work . I fail to see the step I am missing.
So, considering the 568.2mm upsamples all channels, and 2.5b9 hates my guts, what am I really giving up just staying at the Meridian recommended 2.12 version?
Thank you

When you "retyped 5.1DDD just to be sure", you wiped the Legacy Programme configuration which you'd just named, saved and stored.
Are you using Legacy Programme build v2.215? You must use this version, as older versions do not produce configuration files which are compatible with a processor running 2.5b9 firmware. That's in the instructions for installing 2.5b9.
Cheers

Did it all work with the 5.1DDD type the first time?
As George said above when you went back to type the second time you would have reset all your changes when you loaded the config.
Just one last thought did you set the product version to "2.50 or higher".
Main system; 861v8 ID41, DSP8000SEU fronts with DSP5500 centre and DSP7000 rears (all in lovely silver) 504, HD621 Second system 861v4 ID40 LPS, G98DH, 504, HD621, 2x DSP5200 with DSP5200 centre MD600 tucked away in study. Lots of other Meridian!
