Good luck, I'm off to find a cold beer. I'll check in latter to see how you got on with 2.5b.

Carl

You heed a MAC for success in this world.

Not sure if I understand that as being success or failure.

As for Mac, I use design software that is dual platform. I don't think I would be any more successful if I used the Mac version over the PC version but probably much worse off financially.

I was highly successful using an operating system and bit slice hardware (not on same box) that most people have never heard of - I use to interface them to Macs (and latterly PCs). It wasn't the Mac that made me successful - the Macs were a toy compared to these things, but much cheaper as user interfaces which is why we used them. It took the Mac and PC world 20 years to catch up, yet people think they are cutting edge - I was doing true 64bit stuff 19 years ago. Mind you, I did pretty good stuff with the Mac too 23 years back. It was nice but nothing special but yes, it was better than a PC. But now, in real world apps undertaking identical tasks, it's horses for courses and simply down to what software you want to run, personal preference and whether you want to enter into a yearly upgrade cycle, or 3(ish) yearly cycle.

There are a whole lot of settings in config program!

Layout done.
I set the D1500 subs to wide DSP.
All other speakers are defaulted max and cannot change so fine by me.
Guessed pretty close on distances.
Crossovers THX Defaults or Meridian defaults?
Phase gain - forget it I'm not touching this.
Connections not going there either.
THX ultra 2 is default checked so I'll leave it alone.

Right so far?

Congratulations on getting there!

Leave phase at all +ve (default)

'Gain' you can adjust when you buy an SPL meter. Leave it for now.

Connections...you have these sorted anyway for the DSPs, they are labelled on the rear of the processor

Connections for sources will be at defaults as detailed in the manual. At some future point, you can go back into the legacy software programme and change them if necessary.

Don't know how Meridian subs should be set up re Xovers, as I've never used one.

Goodness, you may even be listening to music before the night's out!

George,
No celebration yet.
Went to "store" and it failed.
My computer guy is pulling his hair out. He set up a com 3 that worked for loading the firmware. Now Com3 is grayed out only com 1 and com 2 are there and neither will store to the 568.2.

Someone wrote a post regarding this I think so I need to look back.

more fun!

You know, even without storing the config file, you've already typed it successfully, so you can start listening.

The manual will tell you what inputs and labels are active for that Type.

Cheers

If your room is setup then use a tape measure to get the distance right, get your wife to help (mine does and grumbles a lot) don't guess. If not do it ASAP once room is setup up. Getting the distance an SPL for each speaker is important.

Set all your DSP33 to be Small (96K) as this enable the bass management to direct the bass below the cross-over value to the subs.

Centre for music and movies.

With DSP33s I'd start off with the THX defaults, all 80Hz, but I think you will need to experiment with the X-over values. Others with DSP33 will be able to advise you further here.

Phase/Gain very important, do not skip this.
You must setup this during speaker calibration using the SPL meter and you ears. It's in the user guide on how to do this.

I think that's a good start but I'm not the best guy to help you with using the legacy software as I've not used it.

The later Mconfig is good to experiment with as it more graphical esp. with bass management, but you can only use this for visualisation as it does not support the 568.

Regards,
Carl

What where you saying about Macs wink .... Just joshing; I'm indifferent about PCs, Macs, Unix, Linux, AIX, HP-UX, OS2, CMP, DOS, ... each have their own strengths and weaknesses and I have used them all professionally.

It sounds like something is holding on to com3 after you performed the firmware upload and thus making it unavailable for the config program. If all else fails try a re-boot.

Carl

One more question before I go have many drinks. In turning the newly upgraded 568.2 off and on a few times I did see a flash once of "bad software" So really in the end, what is the benefit of upgrading to 2.59 over the older version 2.12? Maybe I'll just go back to it.

Well 2.12 has Trifield width that works. Its broken on 2.5b9. There is bass management that isn't set to correct levels if using the MM port with all small speakers and sub using 2.12. If not using the MM port then not an issue.

Also new Dolby decoding...prologic X in 2.5b9.

2.5b9 sounds a little better but that is just MHO. Really your call.

I remember having to load each file one at a time to get 2.5b9 to load correctly on my 568.2mm.
