What tells you it is not happy? What are you pressing to be seeing the "bad software" message? You confirmed that the display is showing the correct firmware is loaded, so when is it coming up with "bad software"?

Cheers

Right after turn on. Flashes Meridian followed by "bad software".

Unfortunately I've found that not to be true when using virtualisation software to run Windows on a Mac. Isn't he also doing that?

Because its a firmware upgrade which needs to zap all memory locations rather than just loading a set of values into a more limited set of memory locations.

Also, the upgrade documentation for this release (a particularly major one as it changes the way that presets work so old presets are incompatible with new presets) specifically states that "Bad EEPROM" will be displayed until the unit is retyped and "Bad Software" will be displayed after reboots until installation is complete.

I know that Meridian documentation is sometimes wrong, but I think it is best to follow the release notes for the 2.5 upgrade to the letter and not skip steps that may or may not be necessary.

It sound like Bayetta is missing a step or a file, either accidentally skipping a step or something not being performed correctly. "Bad software" is correct behaviour during this software upgrade, the problem is either determining what the missing step/file is or, as is the avenue currently being explored, what needs to be done to ensure that all the steps can be executed correctly.

If the upgrade instructions were incorrect, I am sure that we would have heard about it before now.

Mr Meridian emailed you the files.
I sent you PM and I have just sent you a another one.

IMHO I don't think you need any more copies.

So just to be clear on this:

You MUST load the firmware into the 568 i.e.. no "BAD SOFTWARE" error message at power up after completion.

If you get "BAD EEPROM" after power up, that is OK; it just means the 568 needs to be re-typed (ie restored to a factory default).

You can do this; it does not really matter what type it set as it will be over ridden by the Legacy Configuration Program.

If you can't get passed the "BAD SOFTWARE" message.

STOP: Do NOT attempt to re-type it will not work or help.

It may help loading the firmware to slow the baud rate down on the RS232 communications. You will need to go to the COMM port properties on your PC and select a slower speed 9600 Baud would be a good start.

If you get stuck, please describe what you did, how you did it and what the PC and 568 displayed.

Without taking this approach you (we) will be going round in circles.

Regards,
Carl

Bad Software is when two different software files are not talking to each other properly, it is more common on the G series and 800 series and often happens when one board is at a different software version to the others, so it seems that you have not loaded the firmware properly IMHO.

As Carl says, load the firmware, and then re-type, and do nothing more than that for now.

Have you considered a Yamaha Soundbar?? wink

I don't agree with that, if you were to Type it after the firmware update how do you then proceed with the next section of the instructions where it tells you to fetch your settings and convert them to v2.5? You would have wiped them all.

Of course it would be ideal to fetch first, but I never did and it worked fine for me, on all 3 occasions.

Edit: Don't get me wrong, I don't think it could do anything other than good, but I think in this case he has just uploaded the firmware incorrectly.

Thanks all,

Like I said before, I did it right the first time and got the BAD EEPROM blinking, I was right there....and then did something stupid like accidently clicked fetch or something and screwed it up so now only get Bad Software.

Much thanks and yes I have a B&W Panorama soundbar in the bedroom and it's terrific there.

After work tonight, I'm getting on it again.

@Carl I'll check the settings as you suggested.

" BAD EPHROM " --> "BAD EEPROM" Can a Mac put your letters in the right order wink LOL

Did you slow down the comms baud rate?

OK, that's great news.

Next step is to run the Legacy Config Program, load the config that you started to setup, double check it and then load it into the 568. Take it one step at time and report back ASAP if you have problems / questions.

Regards,
Carl
