My 568 is still not happy (bad software) and I will start over again later after learning more from this thread. I have re downloaded the firmware sent to me so many times it's corrupted so thanks for resending it again. Choosing the correct COMMS connection is a pain as it is trial and error for me. What Comm number is the rs232 on the 568? On the other side I have trial and error for the USB on the laptop side.

Mac's are way more intuitive.

I personally don't see the need to 'Type' a product unless you are not going to use the config programme, the config programme is another 'type' and it overwrites whatever you have done on the unit itself.

The comms connection is simply asking you what port you are using on your computer, as long as you plug the USB into the same USB socket each time it will stay the same.

You can check what it is by right clicking on My Computer, choose properties.
Then choose Hardware and then Device Manager.
Under 'Ports' you can see your USB device, look at the properties of that and you will see which port it has been assigned to.

Set the port number in the Meridian config programme and in the firmware software and leave it.
It is only trial and error if you don't know what port you are at, which can change if you change the USB socket each time you plug it in.

I have never typed a product other than the 565, but there was no PC software with that.

The Meridian hardware is very resilient to firmware uploads going wrong, you simply do it again until it takes.
It might be an idea to slow the port speeds down a bit, again under the device manager. But really not necessary.

No Darling, I've had it months!
