Going back like Carl said and started again.
Updated to 2.5b9 and laptop said "completed successfully".
I typed 5.1 DDD, hit off, powered down. Turned power on, checked the type and 5.S AAA displays.
Whats interesting is I emailed the previous owner. He had it set to 5.S AAA. So it just won't budge when I try to change the type.

I realized that in the email I got containing the update there was one file labeled Types or something. Yet when I opened the mfp file it showed and loaded 4 files but none were the Types file. Maybe this is a necessary file that is not getting downloaded.

When I manually change the type it wil not "hold" it when turned off and on again.
I thought this was a problem with my new 568.2mm but I went back to my trusty old 568 and tried the exact same routine with the same result.
The manual says to hold down the up arrow for 3 seconds for the unit to display the current type. If you need to change it use the up and down arrows and when you find the setting you want let the unit type it in and then press the off button.
Obviously I'm missing something and the processor is somehow "locked" from changes. So my question is if indeed the units are locked from possibly being set up thru a PC can you manually unlock the types to reset them?
Thanks

The legacy configuration program allows you to lock/unlock the settings - there is a tick box on the Setup page. I suspect that the previous owner "locked" the settings.

Firstly, you have applied the firmware update correctly, as the display has confirmed this.
Regarding Type, I've just tried this on my 568.2mm. Even when you set the correct type, each time you go back in to check it, the system nudges the Type choice along by one option on the menu of available combinations. It did this several times, which is most unhelpful!
I'd suggest leaving your unit at whatever Type it's saying, but reload the Configuration file you saved on your PC which has details of all the specifics for your own speakers and sources.
Also, forget about changing serial/USB adaptors; the fact that the firmware update has been done successfully shows that the current cable/adaptor is working fine.
And ignore the Types file in that folder I emailed...I'm sure it will have played it's part anyway. The firmware update report may only list the items of DSP code which have been loaded to the system core, not peripheral settings like Type, so don't worry about that.
Cheers
George

Bayetta, I'd strongly suggest that you don't start a new thread on this, keep everything on this discussion on the current one.
I've also posted recommendations for you on this very issue.
Cheers, George

Going back like Carl said and started again. Updated to 2.5b9 and laptop said "completed successfully". Cool, so the laptop was happy but was the 568? Thus to avoid us making assumptions; can you confirm that when powering up your 568 you don't get any Error messages displayed e.g. Bad Software or Bad EEPROM. Thanks. Regards Carl

Hi,
The 568.2 user guide shows the steps that are required. Can you confirm that you are following this page and that your 568.2mm displays the expected output for each stage or at which stage it does not display the expected output.
It is not the I don't belive you; but having more information than "it will not hold it when turned off and on again." we help to diagnoise the issue.
Regards, Carl
568.2 User guide (Page 76) To select a Type
Put the digital surround processor into standby by pressing Off (front panel or remote).
Hold down the Up-Arrow key on the front panel until the display shows: Type in... 3
Hold down the Up-Arrow key for three more seconds until the display shows: Type,wait... It will then show the current Type setting; for example: Type 5.1 AAA
Press Up-Arrow or Down-Arrow key; on the front panel to select the Type. For example, if you have two analogue speakers select the display: Type 2.0 A__
Wait for a few seconds, while the display shows: Typing, wait
Press the Off key on the front panel. The display shows: Exiting Type

With this regard on setting the Type, Meridian should have stated when you go back to check the type you configured it will not give you the correct type. Inducing frustration by thinking you screwed up. Nowhere is it written it will default to the next set up as opposed to what you chose.
My 568 is still not happy (bad software) and I will start over again later after learning more from this thread. I have re downloaded the firmware sent to me so many times it's corrupted so thanks for resending it again. Choosing the correct COMMS connection is a pain as it is trial and error for me. What Comm number is the RS232 on the 568? On the other side I have trial and error for the USB on the laptop side.
Mac's are way more intuitive.

Obviously I'm missing something and the processor is somehow "locked" from changes. So my question is if indeed the units are locked from possibly being set up thru a PC can you manually unlock the types to reset them? Hi, the only 'user' lock that I know off is detailed on: User guide (page 24) Locking and unlocking the menusTo simplify the normal operation of the digital surround processor, and to protect the settings from accidental changes, you can lock the menus so that the parameters cannot be accessed. To display or change the DSP presets, or to define your own presets, you first need to unlock the digital surround processor menus. To lock the menus - Press Off to put the 568.2 in standby. The display shows: . - Press and hold down Preset for a few seconds until the display shows: Locked To unlock the menus - Repeat the above sequence so that the display shows: Unlocked But this does not prevent the Legacy Configuration Program from updating the 568 it just disables some front panel functions. Regards, Carl

Mac's are way more intuitive. I personally don't see the need to 'Type' a product unless you are not going to use the config programme, the config programme is another 'type' and it overwrites whatever you have done on the unit itself. The comms connection is simply asking you what port you are using on your computer, as long as you plug the USB into the same USB socket each time it will stay the same. You can check what it is by right clicking on My Computer, choose properties. Then choose Hardware and then Device Manager. Under 'Ports' you can see your USB device, look at the properties of that and you will see which port it has been assigned to. Set the port number in the Meridian config programme and in the firmware software and leave it. It is only trial and error if you don't know what port you are at, which can change if you change the USB socket each time you plug it in. I have never typed a product other than the 565, but there was no PC software with that. The Meridian hardware is very resilient to firmware uploads going wrong, you simply do it again until it takes. It might be an idea to slow the port speeds down a bit, again under the device manager. But really not necessary.
No Darling, I've had it months!
