Mr. Meridian,
I followed your instructions exactly on you post :

1. With the processor connected to the laptop/PC, open WinFUP, and browse to the folder I emailed you. Choose the .mfp file called 568_25b9.mfp. Start the installation process, and don't choose any other file than that one. (when the .mfp file is loaded, it automatically calls up the other .mfu files to load in the correct sequence, so you don't need to do anything further).

After typing, 5.1DDD, I wasn't sure whether to turn off the 568 or hit the off button but right here I dissconnected the USB to the computer, becase you say in the next sentence...

Choose 568.

Double click the processor symbol on the left again. You now have some other symbols down the left column. Double click on 'Settings'. This will open up more choices, namely 'Setup', 'Speakers', 'Presets' and 'Sources'. The two of relevance for now are firstly 'Speakers' and 'Sources'.

Choosing 'Speakers', there are a number of tabs along the top, go through each and fill in the appropriate info for your system. When you've done that...

Choose 'Sources', and from the list of sources presented, set them up as appropriate.

However, this is where "store" had a problem it took a few times turning on the Meridian and retrying to "store" but it finally said successfully stored except I noticed one blue exclamation saying "product BIOS is Meridian 568, version 2.01. Does this seem right?

I did save my settings to a file though when I was finally done.

I restarted the 568 it flashed Meridian and then "bad software"; seems like it should have been fine.

Hi,

After step 2: "Type" the newly flashed processor.
It would be wise to power off/on the 568 and see what the display displays.

I'm not convinced that the 2.5 firmware has loaded correctly and this is why you are see Bad Software error message.

I suggest that you go back to Step 1: and re-flash the firmware then:

Power 568 off/on & check display.
Retype 568 & check display.
Power off/on & check display.

Report back, on what you see.

Regards,
Carl

I'll do it tonight.

Don't you think the message "product BIOS is Meridian 568, version 2.01." should read version 2.5b9 or is this unrelated?

Also I do get asked along the Legacy program to identify the rs232 port . Which number is the Meridian rs232. I just kept changing the number until it worked

Hi,

To me this suggests there is a issue with the firmware load; as I would expect it to be 2.5b9, however as I have not owned a 568 I can't be 100% certain.

Can you confirm that you have followed Meridian 568v2.5 upgrade instuctions when upgrading the firmware.

Esp. that you selected the .MFP file and not a .MFU file.
WinFUP.exe. Use the ... button to find the file 568_25.mfp

Note, the 568v2.5 checks what firmware version is loaded. During firmware upgrade it will display Bad software every time it boots. This is normal HOWEVER it will not occur once all files are successfully loaded.

So please double check after all the firmware files have loaded; power the 568 off/on and check that Bad software is NOT displayed.

Also, until you retype the unit to a factory preset or download a valid settings file the product will flash
Bad EEPROM

Again after re-typing; power the 568 off/on and check that this Bad software is NOT display.

Only when ALL is ok (no error messages on the 568 display), can you attempt to configure the unit.

BTW: With the 568 in standby, if you press the display button; it will display the firmware version.

Regards,
Carl

Right, that's narrowing things down a little.

Your final comment about "bad software" coming up on the display suggests that some of the firmware installation files from step 1 are missing. For step 1 above, Richard chimed in earlier to say that you do need to switch off and on at the rear during firmware loading, which I'd forgotten. Ian's post also links to the 2.5b9 installation instructions which refer to rebooting. I'd recommend using WinFUP again to reflash the firmware. Did you definitely click on the .mfp file, and not a .mfu file? If it was a .mfu file, the machine would behave in exactly the way you now describe. Disconnect the serial cable before Typing the unit.

At step 2, you said that you weren't sure whether to switch off, or hit the off button, but you'd disconnected and reconnected the serial lead. Did you do either before disconnecting and reconnecting the serial lead? The manual states that after setting a Type, you press the standby button, so worth repeating all of step 2 as well.

At this point, you should have properly installed firmware, and a Type set up. This is when to load up that settings file which you've already created.

Let us know how you get on.

Cheers

George

Thaks guys. The other day when I first tried this I did get the "Bad Software" and then the "Bad EEPROM".
After that is when I didn't follow the instructions exactly. I'll check tonight I that I'm using the MFP not the MFU (although I think I did this correctly. But ever since what ever I am not seeing the flashing bad EEPROM so it seems like it's an error in the 2.59 update.

By the way, the file I was sent says 568_25v9.zip not WinFUP.exe.

568_25v9.zip is a zip file that contains the collection of 568.2mm firmware (.mfp & .mfu) files.

I assume this was emailed to you, it should be fine. However, I also sent you PM (2011-07-27) re. firmware that you might want to re-read.

WinFUP.exe (Meridian's Windows Flash Utility Program) is the program, that you download via the Common Installer from Meridian site, that loads the file firmware files from your PC to the 568 via the RS232 cable.

Carl

Hi Bayetta

The email I sent you had all of the 2.5b9 firmware files in a folder already unzipped. It didn't have WinFUP, as that's downloadable from M's website along with the legacy programme.

Cheers

I would have to say; thinking things thru, the problem is now when I reinstall the update I am not seeing the Bad EEPROM" like I did the very first time. I hope there a fix or reset that any of you can think of. I must have hit the store or flash button the first time I began the config process after the "Bad EEPROM " was seen but as I am not seeing the "Bad EEPROM " flashing anymore when I reinstall the update this is where the problem lies and reinstalling 2.59 (at least so far) has not made it reappear.

I'm going to borrow a newer faster PC for tonight.

The fix is to correctly re-load the firmware using WinFUP and re-type the 568.

Just do it by step by step and make notes as you go.

Carl

Out of interest, with the processor in standby, what does the 568.2mm display say when you press the "display" button on the front panel once?

Cheers

George
