Mr. Meridian,
I followed your instructions exactly on you post :
"There are distinct steps to complete when setting up a processor to your own system. As you wanted to flash the firmware, there's the additional step involving the WinFUP prgramme. If you follow the steps below, you'll get there. I have the legacy programme open in front of me to check this as I type.
1. With the processor connected to the laptop/PC, open WinFUP, and browse to the folder I emailed you. Choose the .mfp file called 568_25b9.mfp. Start the installation process, and don't choose any other file than that one. (when the .mfp file is loaded, it automatically calls up the other .mfu files to load in the correct sequence, so you don't need to do anything further).

2. "Type" the newly flashed processor. This does not involve the laptop/PC or any other programme. It's done from the front panel of the processor, and as Ian says, sets the basic properties of the processor for the number and type of speakers you are using (i.e. DSP or analogue).
After typing, 5.1DDD, I wasn't sure whether to turn off the 568 or hit the off button but right here I dissconnected the USB to the computer, becase you say in the next sentence...
3. Reconnect the laptop/PC. Open the legacy configuration programme. If a desktop Icon has been created, it will just be called 'Meridian'. It's the common tool used to set up all the 500 series kit and some DSPs. Create a new file. A dialogue box comes up, which list various products, including '568'. That covers all the 568 variants. Choose 568.

Click on whichever remote you have. This only tells the programme which name label to apply to each of the inputs, as there was some different button labelling between the MSR and MSR+.
On the left, click once on the proccesor symbol. You now have a drop down menu to the immediate right of that to choose which variety of 568 you are setting up. You need to choose "2.50 and higher".
Double click the processor symbol on the left again. You now have some other symbols down the left column. Double click on 'Settings'. This will open up more choices, namely 'Setup', 'Speakers', 'Presets' and 'Sources'. The two of relevance for now are firstly 'Speakers' and 'Sources'.
Choosing 'Speakers', there are a number of tabs along the top, go through each and fill in the appropriate info for your system. When you've done that...
Choose 'Sources', and from the list of sources presented, set them up as appropriate.

4. When you've done all of the foregoing, and with the processor connected, STORE to the product, then save the file on the laptop with a suitable name.

However, this is where "store" had a problem it took a few times turning on the Meridian and retrying to "store" but it finally said successfully stored except I noticed one blue exclamation saying "product BIOS is Meridian 568, version 2.01. Does this seem right?
I did save my settings to a file though when I was finally done.
I restarted the 568 it flashed Meridian and then "bad software"; seems like it should have been fine.
