So cutting to the chase and through the Marketing lingo, this 192 KHz file update is one of convenience and little sonic benefit.

PS Id rather have FLAC 5.1 via ID40 support than 192 KHz output wink
Hi Carl,

It's Alan btw but as long as you have Martins locked into your memory when it comes to your Meridian purchases, then all is forgiven! wink

It's pretty much as Rick said which is that Sooloos can now store and output the highest resolution material ...albeit in a downsampled format. It is a moot point whether there is a sonic disadvantage of not receiving full 24/192 support as the majority of FLAC studio masters are 24/96.

It's worth noting too that Meridian aren't custodians of the SPDIF & AES/EBU (SpeakerLink, CAT5 etc.) standards.

Don't hold your breath for the FLAC 5.1 but I have lobbied Meridian for this!

Kind regards,
Alan

Hi Martin Alan [Opps my apologies],

For SPDIF & AES/EBU while that's true; Meridian did not have to use AES/EBU when they developed their proprietor CAT5 based SpeakerLink interface. I believe that SpeakerLink is development driven by installation convenience and not by the goal of seeking audio nirvana. SpeakerLink was a good opportunity for Meridian to move on from old school RS232 based comms and restrictive Digital audio standards.
That said, I do acknowledge that Meridian is a 'small' company with a limited R&D budget and resources.

Im not; I'm a seeing HDI Dune coming my way.

I hope I dont sound negative, I love my M kit; I just wish Meridian would stop resting on their laurels and be more innovative and proactive.

Carl

I agree Carl, at 300ish for a Dune it's good value whilst you wait for 5.1 into your ID40.

I know HQ will talk about library etc. but I'm at 600+ 5.1 tracks and only about half way through ripping. Getting access to that when your DVD-A player dies is worth 300! (IMHO)

I just tried the test 192 FLAC file from Linn and it didn't work either, just get the same "Failed To Analyze Media Files" message.

Maybe my Control:10 is the second version and not the latest version.

Must not be the latest Control:10

I can also add that prior to the latest update my Sooloos would not import 192 files

@ Victor,
Have you checked the file in something like Foobar? Might be worth checking the tags and properties. Try a FLAC to FLAC conversion too. Just need to try and rule out the file before concluding it's the C10.

Hopefully this news will be followed by Meridian's annoucement of a replacement for the TwinStore, in order to accomodate these files!

An example

Art Pepper Meets Rhythm Section stereo mix....

= 261MB @ 44.1/16 FLAC

= 1.92GB @ 192/24 FLAC
