I thought this was a superb film with brilliant characters, acting, storyline, pacing, etc. Almost elegaic, it reminded me of "Once Upon a Time in America" in the way it explored and mixed the present and the past through the lives, experiences and tragedies of three core charcters. The music is suble but always there and has a hint of Ennio Morricone and references to Mozart's Requiem - with good reason.

This is the kind of movie which makes you forget the screen, the speakers, the processor, everything except your engagement and involvement in the story. Highly recommended.

Sounds exactly my bag, will have a watch.

Excellent movie . Features what a lot of current Hollywood films lack , ie. interesting , well-rounded characters and a storyline that effects them in a powerful , emotional way .

Great film, sound design remarkable (multilayered, wide-ranging).

I have the Criterion edition, Region A only, but there is perhaps a Region B licensed from them as well.
The Criterion edition has been out for a while , but your post reminded me to check on Amazon to see if a Region B disc was available. And it is! Huzzah!

In other news, Kung Fu Panda II comes highly recommended.

Is that the one where he overtakes a lorry and the lorry-driver, never seen, spends the rest of the film trying to run him off the road?

Duel, that's the one. True suspense. Watching that should be part of the driving test, might make people think twice about road rage...

Just got back from the 3D version of Capitan America enjoyed it alot the special effects were excellent as was the story line. Plus any movie with Tommy Lee Jones in it has to be good he one of my favorite actors highly recommended.

Went to see The Tree of Life yesterday....what a stunning piece of work. Moving, thought provoking, and beautiful to see and hear. Anyone who has been through difficult personal circumstances will be touched by this, but word of warning; this is not conventional cinema.

Press reviews of the movie are polarised, and I can understand why. If you require defined action and a conventional plot, look elsewhere!

I don't know if this is on general release, but a very welcome surprise was the superb screening quality (picture and sound) at the local art house cinema. The best picture quality I've seen in any conventional auditorium (DCA in Dundee for any local lurkers!)

I notice one of Terrence Malick's other films was mentioned earlier...I think I'll explore further!

Cheers

Agree wholeheartedly George.........Malick does make mesmerizing movies, if a little off beat

First Badlands and then Days of Heaven..........and then nothing for 20+ years.......amazing

I'd recommend the above Two movies.....as well as The Thin Red Line
