44/16 is actually good enough, generally speaking within the limitations of our ears. Better dynamic range on the 24bit stuff is available, but resolution is unlikely to be heard and mastering has by far the biggest effect on sound quality at this level, not bit rates. What will make the biggest difference going forward, IMO, is not higher bitrates but a return to quality mastering, ie an end to the "loudness wars" I agree with Mark 100%. So why did I pre-order all 3 of the yet to be released Floyd albums at a total cost of $390 US? Well, it's for the 5.1 on the blu-ray. It's the live performances and documentary material found on each 6 disk sets. But most of all when the tax man comes to my door and says I haven't paid my fair share, I'm going to hand him a used amp and 3 over-recorded CDs
