Well, of course, it is a concern but I have not heard any effect from doing so. Note that the rest of the system is somewhat isolated from AC noise by filters/conditioners. I do not know how I would accomplish the equivalent with wireless.

I'm using an Apple AirPort Express Base Station, this is a wi-fi bridge which connects to the MC200 via ethernet. It plugs in to the mains but doesn't stream through it. I believe a newer model is required (client/non client) . I can't hear a difference between that and hardwired but I'm "only" using DSP3200s. Sounds fantastic to me (can't wait for some updates though, that's why it's wired right? Not holding my breath though...).

Yes, that's what I have been told by a nearby Meridian dealer as well. Definitely a bit steep for my budget too.

Pauli (and One2Many),

Have no fear; the MC200 sounds fantastic as a stand-a-lone Audio-server. Adding a MS600 will lift the sound as well as adding a second zone, but as in all HiFi it is a case of diminishing returns.

You don't list (in your sig. box) what the rest of your kit is [it's a good idea to do this as it helps others to give more informed advice], but you might find that youd get a better improvements starting with just a MC200 and then investing funds in other areas of your system.

As always the golden advice is to let your own ears decide. If that is not possible I'm sure you would not be disappointed with a MC200.

Other options to consider
-- A used C15 (digital audio quality very similar to a MC200)
-- A used C10 (digital audio quality not as good, cheaper than a C15) but excellent when used with a MS600.

Check the Wiki out for more details on the C10/C15s variations.

In the Meridian hierarchy The MS600 is second only to an internal ID40 card within 808.3/861v6.

Regards,
Carl

Profile updated with a list of my present audio equipment.

The Dynaudio's took my system to the next level and they are keepers for the long term.

The Genki still sounds quite good to me, except right after listening to the LP12. I have no Meridian dealers closer than an 8 hour drive away.

I have an iPad and would prefer to use that rather than a Sooloos screen which I do not have space for.

Carl. An MS600 for my main audio and the MC200 for a second system in my basement is not a bad idea.

Thanks Carl and Pauli, profile also updated. I agree about the law of diminishing returns. I just called my local Meridian Dealer and still no MC200. Soon he said.

I have recently tried the Apple TV2 in my system as a music server fed from my iMAC iTunes library and Airport Extreme router wired ethernet with an Arcam rDAC. Even though the ATV2 is is not bit perfect (converts everything to 48khz) it sounded very good. I'm hoping the MC200 sounds even better.

Can anyone get the "Remote Access Settings" to work to add a secondary port? I already host a neighbor's business on port 80 so I can't redirect 80 to my MC200...I'd like to add the secondary port but the window doesn't seem to work.

Hi, I assume your looking a WAN access here.
Can't you configure your router to NAT connection requests to say port 8080 to the MC200's IP address on port 80?

Carl

I will try that, thanks. I have it configured now, I will try it when I am roaming on 3G tomorrow. I have been busy importing my albums in the MC200, does anyone besides me have trouble with EP's ? The AMG database seemingly chooses a random album with checksum collisons and doesn't prompt with a choice when there are few tracks. (The identification seems to depend on track length and number...)

For example, I bought a FLAC download from dragcity.com, 2 tracks, imported it, and it found an incorrect artist and EP name. It can be fixed, but it is sloppy. I'd rather have a prompt then to have it blindly assume.

Also, the AMG ID on the allmusic.com site has never worked with me for finding AMG metadata. Any suggestions on that?

I am also noticing duplicates of artist names, for example, I have 2 10,000 maniacs studio albums, and 2 entries for artists named 10,000 maniacs. I have 3 "The Jam" artists listed in the artist listing !

This is a common problem with the AMG database. There were five of me when I first looked...

I had them correct it, now there are just two, and they can't get it lower than that at present because they are under two different genres. Their database is constantly under development and I've been told this whole problem will "go away" in the near future - perhaps because the artist-genre relationship will be more flexible?

I just have to add though that on my own sniffing around the web portals for all the databases, AMG has far and away the most complete database for classical repertoire (which is my area).

Using the AMG ID in Sooloos you have to pad it out to 10 characters; ie "xx 12345" has to be entered on the Sooloos as "xx___12345". Not nice I know.

On ControlPC / ControlMac there is a link to search for duplicate artists, I've tried clicking it and it reported "Non found" which is what I expected as I havn't seen an duplicate artists on my system.

Carl
