Hi Tony,

Very easy - I switched it off!

There is a way to set up the firewall so that it remains in tact whilst letting your MC200 do it's stuff, and this is something I will sort out at a later date, but at the time I just wanted to see whether it worked... and it does. This answered the question of what was causing the trouble in my system, all I need to do now is learn how to reconfigure my BT HomeHub firewall settings.

Hope this helps,
Henry

Henry

Thats interesting because when I was having trouble installing ControlMac I switched my BT Homehub off before discovering about for need Admin privileges on the target account.

Hi everyone. I'm new to this forum.

I have been reading up on the MC200 on this forum and some of the reviews here have convinced me that this what I should buy.
Most of my CDs are in iTunes on a Powerbook but I never really get around to using it as a music server. I plan to connect the analog out of the MC200 to a non Meridian system.

Could anyone tell me if the hard drive is replaceable if it were to fail in the future?
Does the MC200 have to be connected by wire (ethernet) to a wireless router for the iPad app to work?
How do you back up the MC200 and is it fairly straightforward to do?

One2Many, have you purchased the MC200 and if so what are your impressions?

Thanks.

Hi Pauli,

Welcome to the forum.

The drive is replaceable, though it would typicaly be done by Meridian or a dealer.

Yes, a WiFi router is required (and internet access whilst ripping).

Backup is done to a 3rd party drive, using the supplied Meridian ControlPC/ControlMAC software and is fine to use.

Trust this helps.

Regards,
Carl

Yes thank you.

But does the MC200 have to be hard wired to the router? Or is wireless good?
My router is in the basement and my audio system is on the main floor.

It has to be hard wired (like all the Sooloos kit), so you would need to pull a Cat5e/Cat6 cable.

Hi Pauli, No, I have not purchased the MC200 yet, but it is still on my list. Like you I would connect it analog out to a non Meridian system. I would really like to audition it this way first. Unfortunately none of the Meridian dealers near me have one to demo yet. Not a big rush. I think for $4000 US it should sound excellent as a stand alone one box solution, but some of the posts here suggest that you would need the MS600 to get the best sound quality which would bring it up to $7000 US. Too much for my budget.

Cheers,

Al

If you can't get hardwired network between router and MC200, you can bridge it with a wireless link using third party products.

You will be looking for a standalone device that acts as a 'station repeater' or 'universal repeater'. Depending on your existing router, 'access point' mode may work too. Many units sold simply as 'access points' will have these different modes.

In addition, the MC200 has USB expansion on the rear. It may be worth asking your dealer to find out if any wireless dongles are available for this yet.

I used a powerline link with the original Sooloos and these links are even better these days (200mbps vs. 85mbps).

Genuine question: do you have any concerns about adding noise to the mains? Or have you not heard any effect from doing so?
