Hi All,

As Rick and Gerry have done, from the PP point of view I'd like to try and further allay fears about the Meridian Firmware release procedure. I have spoken to our Account Manager at Meridian and I can confirm the following relating to the process of obtaining Meridian Firmware in the future:

Communication
- when new firmware is available, the Premium Partner will be informed and that will be the trigger to contact Meridian customers
- there may well be an announcement on Meridian's official web site too to contact the PP
- as a back-stop, customers not known to the PP will also hear via HH

Process
- the Firmware will no longer be publicly available on Meridian's official site
- the PP will have access to a secure area on Meridian's web site to access the Firmware
- the PP will email the Firmware to the customer
- as now, by customer request the PP may visit depending on the specifics of the situation, commercial terms etc.

Win/Win!
- Meridian customer's will continue to get Firmware updates as now, just from a slightly different source
- the new process is minimal extra effort on the part of the PP and is an opportunity to (re-)engage with the customer

Other
- Meridian are fully expecting Firmware to turn up on HH and seem relaxed about this
- they seem to want to be out of the front line of the Firmware distribution process
- Meridian fully understand the value of the second hand market and aren't seeking to alienate Meridian customers who have, buy or sell older kit
- owners who apply unofficial Firmware to their expensive kit to obtain perceived benefits (fixes & enhancements) beware!

I hope this helps remove some of the fear surrounding the availability of Meridian Firmware in the future.

Best regards,
Alan

+1. Thank you.

Alan, could you enquire whether there will be any firmware update for my DVP 2351? The firmware for this has never been available from M's website.

What is the current firmware for new DVP 2351s? I am running 1.00 at present.

Thanks for the update.

Given the new firmware distribution process appears sorted is there any news on when the firmware updates referred to in the recent message from Meridian will be available ?

Hi Robert,

In the UK when you search for a Meridian retailer in a particular location, the results are split into Premium Partners, Design Consultants & Compact System Resellers. For example when I put in the location 'Norwich' the following results are shown: http://www.Meridian-audio.com/retailers/europe-and-russia/united-kingdom.aspx?q=nr1

Outside the UK, I believe you will be given a Distributor name for example, for Austria you will see: http://www.Meridian-audio.com/retailers/europe-and-russia/austria.aspx (AViC Vertriebs GmbH). My understanding is that a Distributor will be able to provide the Firmware services that a UK Premium Partner can offer.

I hope this helps.

Best regards,
Alan

Hi Avii,

At present no date has been communicated to Premium Partners regarding the recent topical fixes/enhancements. As soon as there is more information then it will be communicated.

Only a personal feeling but I don't think we're far away from a new Firmware release, though it's only speculation as to what it might contain.

Apologies that there is nothing more definite to report at present.

Best regards,
Alan

Hi dpstjp,

Meridian have confirmed that v1.00 is the correct firmware for the DVP 2351 and that there will not be a further Firmware update.

I hope this helps.

Best regards,
Alan

Thank you for the confirmation, Alan.

I note that Meridian no longer have these on their price list either, according to Duncs site. I presume it's been discontinued? In which case could I ask whether you could send me a copy of the firmware v1.00 for my personal use?

I do find occasionally the colourspace seems to go a bit funny on all sources, having a back up to hand would be helpful. My old VP50 was a bit flaky and at times I did need to reflash it to get it to work again.

Many thanks,

Dominic

Hi Dominic,

You are correct in that the DVP2351 has been discontinued.

However, as the DVP2351 (based on the DVDO VP50 Pro) was not manufactured by Meridian, there has never been a Meridian Firmware version available.

Meridian contributed to the original Firmware specification that was applied during manufacture and then checked and tested each unit for conformance to their calibration standards when received in Huntingdon prior to being re-boxed and dispatched as a Meridian product.

I hope this explains the situation but please let me know if you need anything further.

Best regards,
Alan
