George

Thanks for the explanation. It doesn't upsample on any other preset when configured for 'surround'

Regards

Hi Erwin,

Tested and confirmed to work like a charm on my 568.2mm with 2.5b9.

At one point last night when I was changing tracks the next track would click like a digital clip. Just for an instant as the track started and so far only on one particular concert CD that still had audience noise between tracks. I read the 808.2 review and it turns out it too clicks changing tracks just like what I heard. Must be a characteristic of the new filter. Its minor. I will not change tracks with the volume very loud on concert CDs. Other than that if there is a pause between tracks it never clicks. If I hear it on anything else I'll let you know. So far its an amazing difference in my system. Classical music is scary good. Feels like the final veil has been lifted from over the orchestra. Nice! At all volumes too! Even very low volume is very revealing. My system has never resolved to this level before. With some music it's just a relaxing sound character but with some recordings it's like an all new recording.

Ron

Well if it sounds that good on older kit then I think it might answer why it was taking M so long to implement.

Can't wait to try it on my 568. Already tried of course without reading the instructions so haven't quite got it working yet!

I agree with your comment, the most likely reason for not getting the official update sooner is to wait for the high end buyer to pay the high price first to update their gear.

Ok I did it on my 861v4 and I just had time to see after the process completed a message on the screen that said something like "Bad code combination ..."

Any idea what this means ?

Just want to be sure you know that I updated my DSP8000s today and the firmware seems to be working well. Didn't see this reflected in the wiki.

Thanks again,
John

Erwin:

I am mightily impressed that you were willing and able to provide this capability. It really does bring home for me what an incredible resource this forum is, and how lucky we all are to have such capable and knowledgable members like yourself. Even before Meridian began to withdraw from direct user interaction, I had increasingly viewed HH as the first stop for advice and problem resolution.

It also reflects rather poorly on Meridian, that they were either unwilling or unable to architect a similarly elegent solution. I suppose, as others have pointed out, apodizing for legacy equipment does make the newer stuff just a tad tougher to sell.

Did some serious listening on my G68ADV last night. Gobsmaked at the difference in the sound! Was like upgrading to a new component.

Well done Erwin!

That is a message I once got in between the update of the CD20 and EF20 cards. The 861 seems to reboot after every DSP that is upgraded and after the first DSP card it repords a mismatch between the 2 DSP cards I think.

But for a 861 is the changed code not running on the IE42 card?

I am extremely good at getting Bad Code Combination as my computer times out' I have to load all the firmware one at a time. You may have part of your firmware missing or in the wrong order

Thanks to Erwin I now have the 1.44a firmware installed in my G68XXV, 44k from CD coming in from my G98 and HS=Y set.

Does it sound different? Yes, but I will need some further time to establish just how to describe it.

I can confirm it works with my 568.2mm. Need to listen to some music to tell whether it's doing anything, especially with the 568 sitting downstream of my HD621.

Many thanks to all concerned.
