I've seen the D8k's and D8k.2's parked next to each other and there are ZERO External Differences

The Glides on the bottom add or subtract about 30mm in height.......depending on whether they are used or not

This is Dubious Info at best........

Hey Carl my dealer said they were taller and I asked him again today, he still swears by it. I just leave it at that.

All the Data sheets from 2001 to 2010 on Dunc's site show 1350mm (H).

Spec sheets are know to be wrong but that would be a pretty major change.

Color can effect how they feel height wise.

So yeah, take a tape measure, I suspect they are the same.

Feet can vary of course too.

Maybe he just sits lower than you do wink It may be cheaper to buy smaller chairs.

The bass chassis is different as the "old" SEAS bass driver is not in production anymore.
My dealer told me that the driver(amps) should be different,
but I think he want to sell new DSP..
I dit compare my 8k(have no 8.2k..) and
the only mechanical difference I found is the different gap between the head and the "woofer".
This depends how precise the spike fit to their counterparts and that is changing the gap-but that is very minor.
But there is major reason for the different gap.
The spike have the same lenghts and shape,
but the female cone is less deep.
So the spike cant go in deep enough and that causes the diffent gap.
But we are talking here about 5mm.

Robert

DSP6000 and DSP8000 are sealed bass systems while DSP3200-DSP7200 are vented. This has major impact to articulation and extension in the bass regions IMHO.

I think the only real step up on all accounts (bass, mid treble) for a DSP6k is to go DSP8k.

Why asked?. I need a local buyer to pick them up by me.

MacGuy - I asked due to simple curiosity. With 8k's being at the top of M's speaker range, there's really only the 8.2k's that might be a within M upgrade, and I don't recall reading comments here that the difference would be significant enough to take what must be a major $ hit. It would be interesting to hear if you feel otherwise.

I'd love a pair of 8k's, but funding the progeny's higher education will be consuming any excess CF for a few years.

Cheers, Ian

Please can you elaborate on the impact to which you refer.

Where 7k2s differ from the other speakers is that they offer bass alignment. They are very good speakers, but I have not heard them against 6ks.

To move from 6k to 8k is a very expensive step and there is every right to expect a significant improvement. But I have not heard 8ks against 6ks (I have not actually heard 6ks for a number of years but remember them being impressive).

A comparison between 7k2s and 8ks is a different story: yes, the 8ks are significantly better and yes they are significantly dearer.

8kSL have new buffering and a few other changes but no-one has reported a dramatic difference in performance.

Thanks everyone for the responses and recommendations.

It seems apparent that the 7200's will not provide a significant performance improvement for around $40k.......not an insignificant amount. I will probably upgrade center from the current 5000 to a 5200 or perhaps a 7200......and then hunt for 8000's
