Have owned pair of 6000's with a 5000 center speaker.
Upgraded to an 861v6, and wondering if I would get a dramatic sonic improvement with a pair of 7200's and a 5200 center channel.
Would appreciate feedback/ recommendations on this move, and whether I should trade the 6000's through the dealer or attempt to sell privately. Is there a market in the USA for used (perfect condition) 6000's and approx what would be a reasonable price to expect?
Thanks
861v6, 800v?, 621, DSP6000s(96/24), 3* DSP5000C Center and Rears, plus a JVC RS50 PJ.

Many HHers rate the 6000's almost as highly as the 7200's. To get in your words 'a dramatic sonic improvement' I think you may need a bigger step than 7200's/5200hc. For movies, I would investigate room placement and treatment and keeping the 6000's but upgrading the 5000hc to a 7200hc. You don't say if your 6000's are 96/24 or not which may affect answers.

I've seen 96/24 6000's sell on Audiogon in the past for $3k (weren't pristine). There have been a pair on there for quite a long time at $7.5k (relisted several times). The 7200's have been on there for $23k for quite a while. Seems like quite a big investment for the level of sonic improvement.
Cheers, Ian

Much as I love my 7K2s, I think you need to go 8Ks to get a big improvement over 96/24 6Ks.
MC200, Twinstore, 808v6/ID41 -> DSP8000SE (+ SB Touch, Sony BDP-3300, SKYHD, legacy cassette player) 2nd system: MC200 analogue out, Linn LP12, SB3 -> Quad 34 -> M60 rosewood F80 (Rubino Micallizzato) F80 (Rosso Corsa)

The guy that's selling the 6Ks is way way over priced, I would have bought them but he wants blood for them. I am selling my DSP8000s non-SL purchased new 18 months of use. The DSP7200HC is a much better center and the DSP5500HC second best. To the guy in NJ 'Cubster4', you should checkout the DSP8k and they sure make a major impact.

Hey MacGuy,
You are talking in riddles! I think we need a few more words to understand your thoughts.
What's all this about 8000.2s being taller than 8000s?
There are no dimensional or weight difference in any of the 8k datasheets, but granted Meridian datasheets are not always 100% accurate.
Ive got a pair of 8000.2 when I get home Ill drop a tape measure on them, and report back.
Perhaps you could do the same with you 8000 and we can compare notes.
Regards, Carl
Data Sheet 8000.2 Height is 1350mm (53.2in).
I have now measured the height of one of my 8000.2s and it is 1355mm (excluding feet). I think the extra 5mm is just down to the way the head unit is sitting on top of the base, as there is about 5mm of pin showing below the cup of the head unit.

I agree with Ian, if the 6000s are already 96/24 I think you'll get a more significant impact by going for a 7200 as a centre, with a much much better bang for buck ratio.
If the 6000s are old it might be worth checking the tweeters - these do seem to get old and start rolling off the frequency response rather than fail totally.
But, of course if you lust after some new speakers the 7200s are very nice.
I can't comment on the US market for 6000s but I suspect it is driven by a view that they are great value speaker (great speaker - available at low cost) so the price will tend to be pushed down. Will also depend to some extent on exactly which model it is.

Regards, Carl That's funny . Bring out the tape measure. In boxing it's called tale of the tape.
