Watched "Inception" and "Precious" last night, both on Blu-Ray.
Precious was good - a very moving story - but clearly not designed to be a good HD-demo disc, although the plentiful dark & murky scenes could test a system's visuals. Recommended.
Inception's picture was pin-sharp & the lossless soundtrack was exceptional, particularly the clever use of the sub channel to affect mood / drama, instead of just for the usual wham / bam ! Recommended.
Yes, "Precious" is an outstanding film, very moving, and likely to haunt you long with the human tragedy portrayed after watching it. Picture quality seems very good with many visually dark and "difficult" scenes.
Just watched "Moon" with Sam Rockwell. Very good too, quite old school science fiction and whilst derivative in some respects, it's well crafted and thought provoking. Yes, 5 well spent on that DVD!
As for science-fiction, I am in the middle of the new "complete" Metropolis (in the 1st class MoC version). Very strange film but amazing how influential it's been. Every scene has something I recognise from later films.
Actually I much prefer M, which in its last scene becomes Shakespearean.
Hey George after I setup my system, my wife rented this movie "Salt" and it was sitting around the house for a while, so finally we put the movie in the PS3 and wow, the sound was out of this world. The movie sucked but the sound is topnotch and a good disc to show off one's system. I am truly impressed by 861v6 and HD621 combo. The picture to me is not that clean with HD621 going to Sim2.
Another vote for Apocalypse Now and also for the Criterion Collections 'Night of the Hunter , BD set . Charles Laughtons only stint in the directors chair but but what a great story , great acting and Robert Mitchums finest hour too .
