So you break off all diplomatic relations and we never get anything except a bad taste in the mouth? I do not see how my actions (see below) or lack thereof (not bothering anymore) results in you not getting anything except a bad taste in the mouth. I think it is time that as much people as possible contact their dealer and ask for promised firmware updates, fixes or whatever they need. I have indicated last june that I am interested in several M products but won't buy anything as long as the promised V1.5 firmware for the G68 is not released. My dealer then got answer from M which I posted on this forum. He thought that this was enough to restore my confidence, but since it was just the same old promise without any hard dates (which I specifically asked for) it is not. Half a year has passed since and still not a sign that anything will come soon. Pretty pathetic, don't you think? So if everybody joins in the boycott that has been recently proposed, maybe we have some weight to get things done.

Hi George,
with respect I think your view is a bit strong when considering that you took the HD621 out of your system as it didn't add any sonic benefits to your 44.1 playback (IIRC). I disagree that lack of f/w updates to 8k's impacts their value to any great degree.
We've debated and I think reached consensus on the idea that passing upsampled signals to DSP's seems better than upsampling in the DSP's themselves.
I would think there was way more bang for buck in HQ getting apodizing implemented into the legacy SSP's so that the 'benefit' could be enjoyed in all DSP's regardless of heritage.
FWIW - I tried to hear a difference in my 7200HC when being fed both HS=N and HS=Y materials. Albeit difficult to isolate from the L/R I could perceive absolutely no difference when the 7200 apodized its input.
So, I would just not bang on about DSP f/w. Other bigger fish to catch.
Rgds, Nick

@ Evdberg
I agree. It has to be via the dealers so they should be hearing from everyone with an interest in these things.
How many have done that ?
You have. I have (many times). Hopefully Frank will be able to ask about the outstanding items at CES (the subject of this thread)/
cheers

I think Meridian has worn out a few long term customers. I still think their sound is tough to beat for the money. But even if a firend had the money I'd think twice about recommending them. I didn't say I wouldn't but I'd have think serious about and I'd have to give them some warning. I think this does also have to do with selling more "upscale". The upscale customers wouldn't know what Trifield Width is or Apodizing.

Mods: can I suggest that someone please take the speaker discussion into another thread, as it appears to have happened in this one by accident?

Nic,
I think it's all quite on topic to this thread as it is about the questions and conversation to be had with M @ CES.

800 apodizing? And does the 800 have a future? This is a key question for me that I would like an answer to: whether yes or no. I keep my 800 because it plays CDs well and DVD-As very well - however, I only have about 20 of the latter and thousands of the former. If 800 is never going to get apodizing, or it is very unlikely, then I may investigae 808 somewhat more aggressivly. If 800 is going to get apodizing, or it being seriously considerd, then I'll keep 800 and see. It would be usful to know one way or the other.

Coming to CES? Dress warm. I have 5 inches of snow in my back yard. My pool pump is frozen, not a problem today for the pool. So please bring your questions for M and your longjohns for yourself.

On a related matter mentioned above regarding the general poor state of relations both real and perceived between Meridian and it's customers (albeit HH'ers) - I was reading a book recently called Predictably Irrational by Dan Ariely
It's well worth a read. Still off topic but I must second Joel's recommendation for "Predictably Irrational". Not to understand M's position but to understand my own buying behavior. This is one of my favorite recent non-fiction books. When I decided to purchase my 861 v6, Ariely's words were ringing in my head. Maybe I'm "Predictably Irrational". Regards, Gary

Nic,
I think it's all quite on topic to this thread as it is about the questions and conversation to be had with M @ CES. I agree. How can't we talk about CES questions with out discussing previous promises. How can we talk about subtle variations in Trifield without talking about Trifield Width. etc. Sad but true. Here is hoping for some good ACTION from CES. Notice I didn't say good news

@ Gary It was Nick not Joel I think that book may well make another altogether interesting thread by itself when one examines how we (HH'ers) go about making the buying decisions that we do. I couldn't help but spend some time reflecting on what it meant for me. cheers
