George,
According to the v6 datasheet the 'processing/DSP and Comms cards are unchanged from the previous version of 861' but they do go on to say that is can handle 'between 2 (default) and 10 processor cards'.
They even have the same part numbers CO00, CD20 & EF20.
Which leads on to the question of why a v4 couldn't be upgraded to a v6. It looks like only the I/O cards where changed.
Duncs Dollars and cents.... Well, that seems a bit cynical and unworthy. Perhaps I have misunderstood, or I have been mislead, but I thought the 861v6 had new architecture that specifically reduced jitter?

Well, that seems a bit cynical and unworthy. Perhaps I have misunderstood, or I have been mislead, but I thought the 861v6 had new architecture that specifically reduced jitter? I think folks were expecting a physically different buss and that does not seem the case. It also seems odd that the processing boards are the same (possibly identical), especially given it's "all new architecture". I did try to explain it can still be a new architecture but still use the same physical buss. But just seems very odd and not consistent with past history. It is easy to justify these questions of progress given the MRC procedure is now going on 7? years with no advance in usability. To me that's another red flag. As the photo shows, that 861 board has a copy right of 2001 and it appears 861v6 might have the "same" card. This card is the core Meridian added value.

I'm inferring the V6 board may be the same as well based on Duncs comments that the buss is physically the same, the MIPs are the same and the part numbers are the same. But I admit that is not proof they are the same.

I have a hard time believing a company these days would use the same part numbers for boards with different architectures. Unless said boards were interchangeable across platforms. In these cases there are usually different version numbers incorporated into the part number.
