dont all 33's come with the D5 cable.
all 512's come with cable and moulded plug.
could pin 1 be some sort of voltage to make it work, just a thought

Maybe originally, but I've never known one be sold with it (nor the resetting plug).

I measured the voltage out of the comms socket on some 500 series products, there isn't any DC voltage there*.
I'd assume the 512 gets it's power by rectifying the Tx/Rx signals, this isn't unknown, it's how the PS/2 mouse works on PCs.

Steve.

* I was looking to see if I could use it as a simple trigger, but the signals are always there, which isn't unexpected , because the comms needs to be active so it can 'wake up'.
This is another reason why there isn't much difference between standby and on with regard to power consumption.

I've noticed a mistake on Duncan's site.
The reset plug diagram shows a 5pin DIN240, but the DSP33's have 5pin DIN180 comms sockets?

Dave, If you're ok with this I'll post it to you FOC (I think I already have your address as I sold a DSP33 to you earlier in the year).

All I ask in return is that you or Jon gives me the plug/pin connection data for the D5 so that I can make my own lead up sometime in the future.

Roger,

I would much appreciate the opportunity to borrow your 512 sensor. Many thanks. I've since moved house though, so I'll PM you the new address.

All, it's so nice to see everyone trying to help me like this, it's very much appreciated!

I don't suppose a dealer might ask the mothership how a D5 cable is wired might they?

David

You could be correct Steve, I am responsible for the image!

Pins are correct though

DIN 240s go 1,2,3,4,5 right to left (viewed from soldering side)
DIN 180s go 1,4,2,5,3 right to left (viewed from soldering side)

It's on the 'Meridian 500 leads' diagram.

I think the reset plug connects pins 1 and 5 together, making the master think it's a slave whilst the reset plugs in.

I think only the Controller C-device can put out a voltage as otherwise there would be confusion over who was in charge.

My setup has a C lead going in and out of a 596 which is (i) not a Controller and (ii) usually off at the mains (to preserve the disc-drive). The comms still works fine to downstream components.

With the speakers, the in and out comms connection matters so presumably there is a similar protocol for the Master/Slave relationship. At a guess the master separates input and output and outputs a voltage from the comms out, the input of couse being connected to a C-device so receiveing a Controller signal. Slaves must connect in and out comms to receive the voltage and pass it on unchanged to the next ihe daisy-chain. This is all my supposition and I can't work out how a system with a speaker as Controller can work.

Please correct my guess-work.

Hope this helps.
