I found that removing them the first time took a bit of effort (Dr Freud would probably comment here), but after that it was much easier. And pushing them back on was very straightforward. And always remember to line up the finger slots horizontally so that they are easy to find again.

And they look very elegant. And I have not heard anyone complain that they represent an acoustic barrier.

I agree with Asa Post. I have no problems with my present DSP 5200's (SL version) or my previous 5200's. I do agree however that you get sore fingers for a day!

DSP 7200, DSP 8k. The more recent grills seem to have enlarged finger "ports" to make removal easier. The real problem was that the original instructions in the first issue of the DSP handbook that included the 7200s were wrong. But a helpful HHer soon put me right (thanks, MMusic) and from then onwards it was easy.

Well, I struggled to get my six off the one and only time I've done it (glad to hear they'll be easier next time), but I succeeded and I think the last two were much easier than the first one since I knew what to expect. Putting them back on again was a doddle. They just push on.

By the way, they do look very elegant and seem to be acoustically transparent. (I always leave my fabric grilles off my M60s because they do affect the treble IMO. But the tweeters on 7K2s aren't behind fabric grilles.) I do think that there should be a way to get them off that looks as good but is less of a strain on the fingers and the psyche.

I have 3 DSP 5200's. I am able to open the grills only on one speaker, and put them back gently and not pushing them to hard, so I can re-open them. The other two's, are still virgin, eventhough I already had sore fingers, and let out few Harry Potter mantras to the speakers, still no success. I already looked at wiki, which suggest to piching vertically, no success so far.
I may need to fly Goerge here to help me open them if there is cheap fare available. Is there any tools that may help?

Speak friend and enter.

M says use no tools. AFAIK just sweat and sore fingers. But luckily it seems impossible to damage the grille fabric.

Re tools: I read somewhere about using the handle end of a dinner spoon, gently, just to loosen. Worked for me on 5200s. JimK

Using tools is all about "Feel" and mechanical sympathy/understanding.
If you dont have the "Feel" dont use tools......................Damage is easily done.

From one who uses tools for a living. Chris smile

Someone told me that they had played their 8ks so hard that some of the grilles blew off! This suggests that there is some softening with use / sound pressure.

Wow! Having 'enjoyed' the experience of getting my grilles off, and assuming 8Ks are the same, I can't imagine how loud they must go to blow the grilles off. Hearing damage alert!
