Thanks Joel...look forward to it
As you might probably guess, most here will be interested in your observations of
1) Video Output Quality of 1080p/24 material (Bluray) at its Native Res with NO Video Processing engaged (I think you have a Lumagen anyway???)
2) Video Quality of 1080p/24 with any Oppo Video Processing engaged. Also the results of any "Picture Enhancements" available on the Oppo
3) Audio Quality of TrueHD and DTS-MA Soundtracks with Decoding On
4) General Speed of Operation, Drive Noise, Ease of Setup and any other general comments
Much appreciated
Ronnie:
Here are the answers to your question in the order in which they were asked...
1. Video output @ 1080p/24 via source direct [with the Lumagen set as pass through] was excellent and no diferent from what I saw on the BDP-83.
2. Video outout @ 1080p/24 with Oppo video processing was not as good as via source direct...net net, there is no reason to using any of the Oppo video processing that I could discern...that said, those interested in particular controls can let me know and I will test them specifically.
3. Audio quality was excellent and I could not tell the difference between bitstream and LPCM and, yes, I was able to test this as my new pre/pro can handle both.
4. Speed was very good for a beta product and very simialr to the BDP-83 noting that I suspect this to get better with firmware updates...the setup memeu is essentially unchanged other than for the additions [i.e. 3D, streaming, etc.] and delections [i.e. no more DVDs to 1080/24, etc.] meaning that the setup menu is top notch...noise is improved as there is NO fan...
Overall advice...unless there is a need for 3D or a need for Blockbuster/Netflix streaming [which only works in the US] there is NO NEED or NO BENEFIT to upgrade...just my $0.02...
