I do not have the Bruckner but I want to note that, although there were few classical DVD-As, many are outstanding. Kempe's Strauss, Previn's Messiaen, etc.
Noted. I have them both, plus all of Abbado and Barenboim's Beethoven cycles, Kleiber's Beethoven, Aimard's Messiaen, Harnoncourt's Bach, and Chailly's Mahler 8.

So I think I am missing:
Giulini's Bruckner
Chailly's Mahler 2
Ozawa's Strauss (easily findable)
Harnoncourt's Dvorak (ditto)

Perhaps Alsop's Brahms on Naxos?

Anything else which is of the first rank as performance?

He means which particular performance - there are several, including a famous one on Nonesuch.

Yes. One of the things that annoy me is the assumption that the name of a classical title is sufficient to identify the recording. That is very rarely the case.

Sorry everyone,

Just a simple joiner at heart.

Just reading the CD it says Opus 36 (1976) the conductor was David Zinman. London sinfonietta.

hope that helps and I am not making too much of a fool of myself.

Shaun

PS

It didn't go down too well on the construction site! Mind you Radio 4 didn't either.

The one conducted by the composer on PolskieRadio SACD (http://www.sa-cd.net/showtitle/3931) and on Lipinksi Blu-ray (http://lipinskisound.com/products/gorecki-symphony-no-3-symphony-of-sorrowful-songs/).

You may need 3 more DSP8000s as I have not heard it in stereo. whistle

Kal

Not sure if it's only me, but sadly I can't find anywhere that sells the CD or the Blu-ray disc - please help.

Cheers

Got both of them from Lipinski here in the US. Dunno about the UK.
