just talked to UKHDMI. they will not have any Oppo 93 units before Jan/Feb of next year at the earliest.

i have just learnt that Theta is coming out with a revised version of their CompliBlu unit. This will be 3-d compliant so perhaps it is based on the Oppo 93??? I do not know what the timings are for this unit in terms of UK release.

I read on AVS (anecdotally, of course) that there will be a v2 based on the 93. I don't know if it's true but this seems an obvious move.

(Aside: If jitter really is the basis of differences between transports, I really don't understand why people don't publish jitter figures. Although I guess that would mean people chasing after jitter figures to the detriment of everything else.)

Theta's UK distributor has confirmed the revised unit is on the way next year. No exact dates at this time that I'm aware of.

It looks like whether I go with the Theta / Oppo / or (much less likely)the AYRE it is destined to be a 2011 purchase.

As far as I know, the Oppo BDP-95 will not just be a SE version of the BDP-93, but actually designed and built from the ground up. Given this, I'd guess that improvements will be more than just to the analog outputs!

Also, the current version of the CompliBlu 'streets' much lower than it's $3K SRP. If, indeed, there is to be a CompliBlu II, then the current version will presumably fall even more.

Regarding the Ayre, need to wait to see what Kal thought in his review.

Has anyone compared the audio side of the Oppo 83 to other BR players.

Simon, the current CompliBlu retails for substantially more in the UK than the current US price of $3k. If I could buy a new unit for less than $3k over here it wouldn't be worth a second thought...buy it, use it for a year and then stick it in the guest bedroom!

I agree on the Ayre. Until Kal's review is out I can't rule it out as it may be "the" one. I guess I'm stuck in a holding pattern until January.

the new Oppo Blu-Ray player (1.4 HDMI/3D) has been offered to purchase to a select bunch of previous customers and others who have signed up on the Oppo website, supposedly to start shipping next week (which is a big holiday week in the U.S.).

No immediate plans to replace my 83 with a 93. If reports suggest the audio/video quality is improved than I'll reconsider, otherwise it will offer no real advantages.

well, it will have Netflix streaming built in, 3D support, dual HDMI outputs. I doubt the video will be much better.

I agree with George. I need another Blu-Ray player so I'm waiting for the Oppo BDP-93. But my new 861 v6 has shipped and will arrive early next week. I think I have my priorities straight.

Yes the enhanced SE versions of the Oppo-BDP-83 were only for analog and they were quite favorably reviewed using the 861 v6 and using analog inputs. For me however I want the 7.1 capability and so I need to use HDMI into the HD621. I am not sure but, I don't believe they plan on having an SE version of the -93.

From what I've read the Oppo does plan an 93SE. I think I recall reading that on the Oppo web site. I'm scheduled to pick my BETA program 93 up on Monday the 22nd.

Best,

Jay
