Big heads up. My better half spotted and series-linked a new BBC4 series: "Songwriters Circle".

We watched the first programme (of four) last night, a live set with Richard Thomson, Suzanne Vega and Loudon Wainwright III.

Quite simply, apart from the great music and performances, I think this is the best sound quality I've ever heard from a live performance on TV. Close-miked and a really clear and forward presentation, and that was through the speakers on my Panny plasma. With the volume turned up, it almost felt that we were at the venue. Goodness knows how good this will sound through Meridian kit!

This episode is being repeated on BBC4 tomorrow (Monday) at 1am.

Unmissable.

The regular slot is at 22:15 on Fridays. Next up are Justin Currie, Chris Difford and Boo Hewerdine.

P.S. I haven't seen it, but there is also a retrospective called "Singer-Songwriters at the BBC" which is a compilation of performances from 1970s singer-songwriters. Part one is being repeated on BBC4 at midnight tonight. Regular slot is 21:15 on Fridays.
