There are a few products on the market able to transfer legacy audio to your computer...

...and now SoundSaver from Bias joins in. It costs just under $50.

One feature that sets it apart from the crowd is its ability to record 78's from a '33' turntable (by changing the speed in post production) - plus the usual click, pop, hiss and rumble removal - prior to to WAV or iTunes transfer. You can also download legacy artwork from within SoundSaver.

It's available for both Mac and PC - and there's a free download trial available...

I have digitised alot of Audio books on tape from a good cassette deck straight into my computer. 128 kb/s via creative media software.
I have also been lucky enough to have saved 3 lost recordings and a trailer (For which the program is still lost) to an archive for posterity. Home recording didnt kill the Radio drama industry..... It saved it. So much was lost even as late as 1990.

Anyone have anything interesting, look here.

Cheers Chris smile

No-one using the digital out of their M processor for this?

On a distantly related topic I am at my parents' house now and am borrowing their Sony mains MD player to transfer a stack of MDs from my wife's student days...

I transfer via Apogee Duet into Garage Band/Logic Studio/ITunes
Excellent interface
Not sure about 78's @331/3 RPM...
Does it get speed and equalisation right?
Thats a lot of auto tune!
Needle dropping needs topping and tailing so process at a decent bit depth and transcode.

I've digitised LPs by connecting my turntable, via a phono preamp, to my Meridian G92 then taking a feed from the digitial output to my PC via an external soundcard and capturing the data via Sound Forge (using ASIO).

Sound Forge 10 has some useful restoration tools to deal with noise and clicks but they need to be used with care (and with caution or they can ADD plops).
