There's also a middle way: keep the LP12 (I would) and get the Chord Chordette phono preamp. It is phono level in, SPDIF out. Only 16/44 I think, but perhaps the advantages of the package outweigh that. Or there's a similar Burmester which does much the same, balanced and at high sampling rates. ![[Linked Image from burmester.de]](http://www.burmester.de/de/media/images/prctlg/detail/100_detail.jpg) You will, though, have to sell your grandmother.

Zander did state that his LP12 doesn't have an arm or cartridge, so the quoted 50 for a set up doesn't really work out. Zander could get most of the 375 for the Stanton by selling the tri sprung fruit box (LP12).
The Stanton was the first solution I could find, there are probably other similar solutions.
All the best,
Steve. (LP12 owner since 1987)

LP12 with a Rega arm? Burn the Heretic... Excellent! To be honest, I couldn't afford an Ittok when I bought the LP12 (used) in 1986. The Rega was the lowest cost option at the time, and although it was obviously not the done thing, it always sounded good enough to be workable. Indeed, it saw off my first two CD players for sound quality (from 1989) and it was only with the arrival of the Meridian 206B in 1991 that (for me) CD was now on a level playing field. A very different sound, to be sure, but equally valid musically. From then on it was CDs, so all of my vinyl is pre 1991. I have toyed with upgrading to something lovely new and shiny, but with a static collection of 400 albums, there seems little point. So it soldiers on! Cheers George PS Ooh, and I've just hit 1600 posts! That's two short of 3000, if you count my "lost" 1398 posts when the forum went a bit haywire a few years back!

Hmmmm.
A while ago somebody suggested a 562 and a Meridian phono card as a nice simple - one box - solution to the question of how do I get my LP-player into my DSPs. It seemed like a good idea then and it seems like a good idea now!
Having said that an LP12 might be fantastically "foot-tapping" but if you need and arm and a leg (sorry cartridge) and phono-stage AND an ADC. There's quite a bit to do. An idea of budget would be very helpful! Steve Eyles suggestion has a lot of merit if that's your budget. Otherwise consider 50 to "service" the LP12. ?200 for an RB300 (What else would you bolt on it Steve? Is there a cheep Linn arm these days?) ?150 for a Goldring 1042 cartridge. "Bargain" 562 (150) and a ProJect PhonoBox II (75) from eBay. That's 625 and I'm trying fairly hard to stick to a budget (that's what I say to the wife, anyway)!
Main system; 861v8 ID41, DSP8000SEU fronts with DSP5500 centre and DSP7000 rears (all in lovely silver) 504, HD621 Second system 861v4 ID40 LPS, G98DH, 504, HD621, 2x DSP5200 with DSP5200 centre MD600 tucked away in study. Lots of other Meridian!

Fair points Richard, I hadn't noticed that Zander was "armless"!
I'd have thought 150 for a used arm, 75 for a low hours used cartridge, 150 for the 562 and anywhere between 16-80 for a used Project phono box 2* Service on top comes to 425 plus the Project, so say 470 all in.
Either way, it's no bad thing to be dusting off all that old vinyl. If the walk down memory lane with your old discs fires up enthusiasm enough to rebuild the LP12, then it's all good!
Cheers
George

Otherwise consider 50 to "service" the LP12. ?200 for an RB300 (What else would you bolt on it Steve? Is there a cheep Linn arm these days?) Linn and cheap don't go together! Fitting a RB251 might be a solution, but the LP12 would need a different arm board (another 40), it all depends on what the LP12 had on it before. ?200 for an RB300, ?150 for a Goldring 1042 cartridge. "Bargain" 562 (150) and a ProJect PhonoBox II (75) from ebay. That's 625 and I'm trying fairly hard to stick to a budget The price quickly adds up with vinyl. I gave up on the Linn upgrade path a while back. If the OP is determined to use the LP12, he needs to find out what arm was on it and get one to suit. I would sell the LP12, if it is in good condition and has a valhalla power supply, it could easily fetch 400 on eBay. Strip it to it's component parts and you'd get even more. Steve.

The OP wants fun and no stress... Very true. Hmmm. My own advice in this thread does remind me of that recent YouTube video "The High End Store"! Cheers George
