Your quotation is, as far as I can make out, from 2003. So it looks pretty weird quoting it then contradicting it based on subsequent developments in the past decade. Are they supposed to be able to tell the future now as well?!

My mistake. So is the quoted info no longer correct - was Trifield functionaly restored for center channel-less systems?

Trifield sounds pretty identical to Direct/Stereo to me in the front speakers. With the latest firmware, I would expect a 3dB drop in volume due to the Trifield processing headroom, but I cannot detect a difference.

Trifield width is solved, it was a problem with the DSP C-file versions, at least on my 861 with different sw versions(v6/v8) its clearly working.

If you have bad recorded music you will not hear it, but with every "standard" recorded music it's clearly noticeable. If you like it extreme, store two custom DSP-presets with width 0 and 1.5 so you can switch between that values.

Robert - that wasn't the question being asked...

Also, I feel obliged to point out that Meridian does not support a mix and match approach to loading different DSP firmware file combinations "to user taste".

I quizzed HQ about 3dB headroom in current Trifield earlier this year. I was informed that Trifield is operating at 0dB. There is no dB trim.

I was a little surprised as my ears were telling me otherwise. I didn't however measure with any science.

If so Nick, it certainly wasn't documented in any firmware release notes. Supposedly only Direct and Stereo were modified to ensure no loss in resolution.

Hi VK,

That's what I recall too.

I'd be very surprised (but delighted) if the Trifield is also at 0dB now.

Regards,
Carl

That was the basis of the chat I had.

PS ... it was at the Bristol gig this year so I expect it is a question that can be asked again either their or at an MWL day ... if it is of interest to folks.

Are you guys referring to 861/G-series, as far as I know, Trifield width is still 'broken' on 568.2...?

Can anyone tell me if the list of 'works' and 'doesn't work' in the Trifield portion of the wiki is still correct?

I've had a HHer message me privately that the G68 is all good with Trifield now, is this correct?

Ideally I'd love a G68 for a Trifield setup, but will buy a 568 if that's what is needed.

Cheers,
Jason.

Lounge: DSP5200SL (L-R), DSW, 218, Michell Tecnodec, G98DH, tape deck.

Shed: DSP3100HC mains with twin analogue subs, 568, MS200. This sounds waay better than it should.

Storage: Way too much Meridian stuff, but I'm culling.
