Do you mean the difference between v4 (non-functioning) and v6 (functioning) is clear?

There's no reason why they should have have fixed it to be the same as before. After all, it has been said above that the widest setting was wider than anyone would want to use.

I've never heard Trifield width in action as my 568 has only ever run the broken Beta firmware. frown

Just to clarify one more time.

In my opinion:

- The Trifield width setting, when working (e.g. 561), is blatently obvious.

- The Trifield width setting, when not working (e.g. G68), results in no difference whatsoever.

It's well beyond a reasonable period of time for Meridian to sort this out, given that we pointed out their "embarrassing" mistake to them.

How hard can it be to take a piece of code from a old version that works and replace that for the piece of code in the last release and compile it again ?

I assume they use some development system that allows the use of submodules functions or whatever it is called. Not likely it is 10.000 lines of code in one piece.

i suspect they are running low on development staff that can understand, build, debug, test the fixes. maybe it is time to consider "open sourcing" the platform to hitchhikers ! I vote VK in charge of apodizing :-)

I vote for "open sourcing". I'll happy take on the challenge to add 7.1 input support for G61R, G68 and 861v4 !

When it was acknowledged that the error was there it was said to be an easy fix due to the modular structure.

I suspect it is just an issue of low resources and other priorities at HQ.

Totally agree, after using a 568.1 for a couple of months where the Trifield works the difference is like switching between mono and stereo modes going from 0 and 1.5, it is that dramatic, and so it should be, that is the point, on 0 it has it centred with the odd bit going to the mains and on 1.5 it is set to the mains with the centre not even noticeable unless you have your ear next to it, sure you can notice when you switch back to stereo, but it is like a well set up sub, you don't know it is on until you turn it off.

Being back with broken Trifield is a real pain, so much so I have stopped using it, no matter how much I adjust depth, centre gain etc. I just can't get broken Trifield to sound as good as stereo, so I am no longer using it for anything other than uncritical listening, ie. internet radio and off axis background music.

Shame. frown

It's not only Trifield. The width settings are broken in the other modes that use it too.

Meridian used to listen to their customers back in 2000 when the 568 first came out. I pointed out flaws back then and they would send me changes every month to evaluate.

Then when the 568.2 and G series came out they stopped listening. I was beating them up back when the audio levels for the LFE channel were wrong when using bass management for DD and DTS playback on the 567.2. They fixed that with the Beta release. It took more than a year to address the LFE level problem.

Very sad this width setting has been broken for 7-8 years. Pathetic... someone should be slapped...hard! Then fired!

Ha-ha! You are probably right. The guys who originally wrote the code left the company. I often thought that maybe the new firmware that changed the way these processors worked broke the width adjustment. That maybe it wasn't possible to fix.

I do not understand why Meridian lets this drag on for years. The number of negative posts on this subject alone are numerous. Any other company would handle the problem as soon as possible, but Meridian does not seem to be 'customer aware' ...
