District 9 is on SKY HD at the moment.

A great ride with excellent storyline and superb visuals
Shot on a Redd digital camera and made for $30M it recouped that in the first week
Its banned in Nigeria for its portrayal of Nigerian gangsters (they eat alien body parts and have sex with them..)
For first time direction its amazing.
It was nominated for 4 Oscars.

Roger

Im also watching the Directors cut of Amadaeus (3,1/2 hrs) its ravishing.

Also enjoyed both of these on BD . I think there may also be a sequel to District 9 . Also looking forward to a features packed edition of Apocalypse Now featuring both cuts and also Heart of Darkness documentary by Coppolla's wife Eleanor .

Also , The Last of the Mohicans arrives on BD early next month , should be good .

Watched Robin Hood on BD last night (directors cut) and I must confess I thought it was a lot better the second time around. I am not sure why but this often happens with me and I have no idea. Maybe I was tired when I saw it at the cinema. I certainly wasn`t bothered with Russell Crowe`s accent (this bugged me first time round) another baffling point.

Or was it the fact that the wife went out on a charity midnight walk and cooked beef wellington which I had with a few glasses of Cotes du Rhone - this maybe the way to go.

BTW

Picture and sound - excellent

Always enjoy Sir Ridley's movies - his bad beats some others' good .

Watched a Spanish-language movie last night ' Sin Nombre ' ( No Number ) about

the attempts of some South-Americans to escape squalor and crime and ride the

trains up to the U.S. border to gain entry . Its a first directorial job for

the 31 year old director from his own script and wends its unpredictable way

along . Made on a budget , he used some of the actual gang members to create

artwork for the extensive tattoos on show .

Definitely an attention-grabber ,

I would strongly recommend a new DVD release of 'Our Friends in the North', a TV series from 1996, on quality of content. I watched it recently & have not enjoyed & been moved so much for a long while by any video. May be of more interest to UK residents who lived through the era portrayed: it deals with UK characters, politics & corruption, but I think anyone would find it of interest.

& 10 hours for 23 at Amazon!

Watched ‘Monsters Inc` on BD - truly amazing! If you have it on DVD it is worth the money to re-invest in the Blu-ray copy. It must be one of the best transfers ever, the quality is remarkable.

After years of depravation a Greenaway movie made it to Bluray. The Baby of Macon's DVD transfer was horrid, this one look very good! Should be on any cinephile shelves.
Now we are waiting for the other (and better films from him) to get to the Bluray heaven!

Zed and Two Noughts is on BFI Bluray as of a few months ago, and looks magnificent. It is likely the other British Film Board-funded films (I think Draughtsman and Drowning) will follow on BFI.

While in Australia last week I just bought the 8-DVD box of Greenaway one can get there, which apparently has the least-bad transfers onto DVD. Watched only one so far, which was a joyful reunion.
