I hear what you're saying Guy, but I also have five TV Sat Boxes Input into the Analog In's of ZP100 Players. These then output to Ceiling or Wall mounted Speakers

These TV's are used regularly, but I've yet to notice any issue and I certainly haven't had to change the Analog Input characteristics of those Inputs

I will add that my experience is the same as Ronnie's in my meagre 9 zone system...I have had no drop out issues at all since SONOS helped me tweak my network...

I guess it varies with the characteristics of the house, wall materials etc. I've surely experienced dropouts with lossless, and none with compressed. Sonos recommends using compressed if you have more than four zones.

I'm a Sonos dealer, and have never heard of this arbitrary limitation. Did you receive this advice from Sonos tech support?

Sounds like your system is primarily wireless? If so, then distances & construction materials might cause problems with lossless streams, forcing you to use compressed in order to avoid dropouts and stuttering. But if you can hardwire things, you'll have no such problems.

I don't think it has anything to do with the analog inputs per se; you would theoretically have similar problems with FLAC, ALAC or WAV shares from a NAS...

The uncompressed line-in 4 zone wireless limitation is a recommendation documented by Sonos. I don't have more than 4 zones so have no experience of it.

FAQ 1091 : Using the Line-In on a ZonePlayer
Changing the line-in encoding setting

The audio from line-in sources can be encoded to produce compressed or uncompressed audio. We recommend the following usage guidelines:

Use Uncompressed if:
• You want optimal performance with home theaters.
• You want to produce the highest quality sound for your multi-zone Sonos system (this selection requires more network bandwidth than compressed audio.)

Use Compressed if:
• You are connecting more than 4 zones wirelessly.

Hi Guy
Have you tried using 1 or 2 of the Sonos Wireless Bridges (99)???

They should be able to plug a few holes in the Mesh Network coverage

FWIW, I've never really understood that recommendation from SONOS. If it'll work with Lossless Tracks, then why not with Uncompressed audio (even if the uncompressed audio from Analog has a relatively high bit rate)

Thanks, Ronnie. It might just do the trick, but I have my doubts. My house is all wood, and I am getting excellent WiFi from just one router on the first floor in all rooms. I get irregular dropouts with regular music if I connect more than two zones, and consistent dropouts if I use an analogue source with uncompressed in.

This is also the case with my cabled ZP90 in the living room. The server (old Mac) is cabled, too. In other words there is direct a CAT5-connection between server and main unit. When I use the cabled ZP90 for analogue, there is no dropouts in that zone (but still in the wireless zones).

Anyway, I should probably post this on the Sonos forum instead.

Back to topic: The Supra cable really worked. Now the sound from the Sonos is just as good, if not better than from my G91 spinner. The veil is gone!
