I know (it's more than 1000 days in my particular instance). However, it could be done off-line during all the time that you;re not using your system ... Just poking around, as you said.  And I do believe it would take a little bit longer than realtime. But then ripping itself takes lots of time.

hi VK,
just back from hols and catching up with this thread.
IIRC isn't sox already part of the Squeezeserver build ? I thought it was using that to re-sample 96 back to 48 e.g. for playback on SB3.
A quick search shows sox.exe in
C:\program files\squeezebox\server\bin\MSWin32-x86-multithread
The latest version on the links above would be 14.3.1. Have you managed to engage the filters (i.e. -vMa) for on-the-fly use ? If so, how? If not, do you plan to ?

Hi Nick. Yes, SoX is there. Last night, the Missus and I listened to my 24/96 rip of the Kleiber/WPO recording of Beethoven's 5th on our F80. It sounded terrific in all its downsampled glory!
I have a few things to investigate first, but I think it will be quite easy.
Edit: I bet the 24-bits made more of a difference in this mastering than the 96kHz sample rate.

Agree with that. Most of the Porc Tree material is 24/48 and seems to feel very big and detailed. Same with some Linn downloads I got. Am trawling through the Slim forum thread http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?t=69145to see what I can make of it.

did either of you ever find the right command lines to put into the squeeze server to get the Sox minimum filters to run. I recall you looked at it previously.
I've spend a few hours looking at the slim forum and draw a blank for a definitive code for flc-flc.

I decided to go down the Sonos route some time ago, mainly due to number of zones
Considering SB again now for main Music Room, due to High Res and Touch etc. Also looking at a few other options to do 24/96. Maybe Sooloos whenever they get to version 3.0..............maybe

OK....will have to put my tinkering hat on then and see where that leads.
FWIW - I am much in the same boat w.r.t options. I currently oscillate between SB+ and SBTouch in the main room and may just settle on one of them.
Transporter price is nice but it doesn't give anything over the Touch.
Dune 3.0 plays all I need but the UI seems lacking and may not have enough family/WAF if we have to have the TV on to select tunes (that is if i understand its use correctly and I may not). Would need a HD621 for this route which negates the need to tinker with SOX/SB filters. Multichannel playback from server is very appealing to finally get over the disappoitment of DVDA.
Sooloos 3.0....with 8TB+ of storage at home I can't see why I'd ever buy a closed system of additional duplicate storage. Wasteful and unnecessary in the modern world. I don't argue with the design for those that want a turn-key solution but I would expect M to address this sooner rather than later.
Sooloos 3.0 also has to match Dune 3.0 format capabilities (bar the BD playback).
I could envisage M being a sector leader in audiophile server/client playback if they so wished. It could put their brand into many other systems as a front-end unit without the closed system baggage for those (many) that don't need it.
A Meridian "transporter" with apodizing and hi-res digital and 1st class analogue etc..............anyway I digress

I know I've asked before, but you may not have seen the question........
How does the SB Touch compare to your upgraded SB+ for Sound Quality??? You obviously found the Upgrades to the SB3 to be a step forward and I wonder if you're considering the same for the Touch???
