I can buy a 568 with 1.5 SW.
Regarding to sw its a Version 1- correct ?
Can the V1 take 96/24 MHR on input?
http://www.meridianunplugged.com/wiki/uploads/568FAQ.pdf
item 28 say yes-but I dont know is that for V2 only,
as V2 ads upsampling on input to 96/24.
So v2 its "only" the possibility to upsample the input,
but v1 allready have internally 96/24 and can accept natural 96/24 inputs?

So what does the 568 V1 make with a 96/24 MHR input?
Downsample- keep it at the naturale sample rate?

Is the upgrade to .2 still available and what hardware is that ?

Is the main transformer-as I know a regular transformer-
switchable (have some windings for another voltages) from 115 VAC to 230 VAC ?

Sorry about my confusion and many posts here, but the infos are not clear for me

Robert

V2 only added more MIPS so it could upsample all channels instead of just the front. I don't know about MHR etc. I assume it can.

See Wiki on converting 500 series voltage 115 to 230 or visa versa.

Subtle stuff also happens between versions. For instance, I'm sure .2 has an upgraded FIFO.

I really highly doubt that. They added a daughter board with another sister DSP chip. The rest of the guts stayed the same.

What about native 568.2s?

Should be the same. What's different on Native 5K 24/96 and upgraded or Upgraded 861 vs Native. That usually isn't different.

I don't think they ever even mention enhanced FIFO in upgrade.

I don't hear any difference toggling it on or off any way, do you?

I've not tried. Best not to take this thread OT though.

Thanks to George and VK,

so voltage change is solved- thanks to wiki

"proofed":

V2 upsamples for all output instead of the fronts as V1
V2 make MHR(hires) output on all channels
V1 make MHR(hires) output on the front channels L/C/R

V2 have one additional PCB with more MIPS

"should":

V2 should have better FIFO

V1 (should)? accept MHR or 96/24 on input

V1 doesnt downsample hires from his input internally - as he can allready upsample(the fronts) ?

"Open":

upgrade from V1 to V2 available ?

As V2 can output MHR(hires) on all channels,
what then the difference to the 568.2mm ?

So refer to Duncan its "MHR input" but it should mean "smartlink input",

what include 3x MHR inputs,
and the player "determinate" via smartlink communication how to "handle" the input stream ?

Keep in mind the most significant difference (with your application) is probably the 568.1 vs 568.2 2.5beta firmware.

It does not pay to upgrade a 568.1 (even if available which I don't think it is) because it would cost more to upgrade than you can find a 568.2 for.

I also find it strange that someone would try to bargain shop on a 568.1 vs 568.2 with a $25K Preamp and 100K-ish worth of speakers. My head is sore I've been scratching it so much with this whole idea. crazy

Robert,

The 568.1 can most definitely handle a 96/24 MHR input and deliver 96/24 to the front three speakers, L/C/R. The 568.1 will not do 96/24 on the rear or side channels, as the 568.1 cannot upsample these channels, only the front L/C/R. And, there is no way to get a high-res multi-channel source into the 568.1.

The "proof" in the 568.1 being able to handle a 96/24 MHR input is the fact that the 596 was released at approximately the same time and I have no problems playing a 2-channel 96/24 Audio DVD on the 596 through the 568.1.

When doing so, the 568.1 reports "MHR 96K". Meaning that it is receiving an MHR signal at 96kHz and is also outputting 96kHz.

Dan

Robert,

The difference between the 568.2 and the 568.2mm is the fact that the "mm" version adds a 6-channel digital input for high-res multi-channel audio. On the 568.2mm Meridian called this input "MHR Smartlink" and the original purpose was to provide the ability to connect the 568.2mm to the 598 player and provide the first industry approved multi-channel digital connection for DVD-A.

Thanks for your thoughts..

I dit bought all my equipment used for much less of the regular price.

I dit have(and still have) one single vertical speaker "left" as I upgrde the center.
After severall trys i recognice that nobody wants to sell or buy a vertical center-
So I need a solution.
Finally buying a pair of speaker more was better as to give my single center away for crazy money.
-
So one speaker is(still) left and I want to use it.
And to use it, the only way is to use it as a single center.
And just to use this speaker, I have to buy a processor.
So I shurly dont want to spend a lot of money for that solution.

Hopefully you understand now why I need a "bargain" prozessor for only ONE speaker.
And hopefully you understand the difference if "someone" (this is me) can have big prices equipment and dit only pay a minor percentage of the regular price.
And by the way- a v4 doesnt cost $25K as regular-
So you shouldnt make prejudices before you know the facts.

Iam not not a rich man, I have hard to work for my money and even if Iam a rich man,
why then its despicably to try to save some money?
Maybe you have problems with that?

Robert
