Just watched Avatar. I was worried I'd be disappointed after watching it at iMax. But I wasn't at all. Picture and sound sucked me right in.
And I didn't hear a bit of clipping

Just seen ‘Robin Hood`, not bad but I felt there was something missing.
Would like to see it again to clarify but first thoughts - the sound track - can`t even remember any of it. Certainly nowhere near ‘Kingdom of Heaven` I also felt that Maid Marion was too old and the accents were all over the place. Very off putting if one comes from Yorkshire. I am surprised at Ridey Scott given where he comes from.
Don`t get we wrong it is worth watching - just not as good as I thought it might have been.
As I said not a patch on Kingdom of Heaven.
Regarding 3D
I haven`t seen a 3D film only a flat panel demo and I must say I wasn`t impressed. Would films like Robin Hood, Kingdom of Heaven, Gladiator or Black Hawk Down have been improved - don`t think so.
No offence but unlike Cliff I do not think it will take off. Would ‘The Shining` have benefited? Don`t think so. If all films are not released in 3D ones 3D collection would take a long time to grow and people would soon get fed up of watching the same 3D films. Is it Avatar or Alice in Wonderland tonight!
Blu-ray is slow to take off. I have been in HMV when people have bought the wrong type of DVD. Most of my friends still have SD DVD`s without adding 3D to the mix.

What was missing, as far as I was concerned, was any sense that anything at all of importance was at stake. All the budget seems to have been front-loaded on the castle assault that takes place in France. From then on, everything feels small-time. The sheriff of Nottingham was a complete non-entity lacking any hint of menace. One yearned for Alan Rickman. The beastly Anglo-French "traitor" manages to destabilize the country with just 200 hundred men. The northern barons that are about to rebel against King John's taxes consisted of just two decrepit old geezers who were barely able to stand under the weight of their own chain mail. As for Russel Crowe - and as someone else said in relation to Gordon Brown - it was as if, were he ever to smile, a fairy somewhere might die. His rallying speeches feel preachy rather than rousing. He suffers no real reversal of fortune and everything just trots along nicely to its predetermined outcome. The French are defeated in a battle devoid of any tactics; King John, now secure, reneges on his word as everyone knows he will; and Robin is then made an outlaw because the king is jealous of his martial charisma. Disappointing.

I thought I saw a pair of silver 5200s or 7200s in the background in a trailer for a movie called Dinner for Schmucks. It was after midnight so maybe I was dreamin'....
Edit: I found it at 2:23.

Watched a great new UK indy film I rented at BlockBuster a couple of nights ago- "New Town Killers".It's a great "chase" movie and very different and a lot darker than the typical Guy Ritchie fare. Highly recommended.
I saw Inception last night. It's in the same mould as The Matrix (reality vs. dreams), but there is only a single sci-fi concept that the audience buys into immediately. Further, it has a tighter plot than the Matrix, smoother execution, the plot is enhanced by CGI rather than being a slave to it, has great casting and fine performances. Highly recommended.
Edit: If you've seen the movie, this is quite interesting and gives an insight into the level of thought put into the movie.
