Hopefully the 861v6 will support up to 192 Khz in the future I don't think that it will.

Main system - Sources (Kodi-HTPC, Vero 4k, FireTV, Sat) into Trinnov Altitude 32 (8-16) (+Roon), Trinnov Amplitude 8 amp & Vivid Audio (Giya G3, V1.5) and REL Stentor III speakers. Others: F80 + Raspberry Pi and other Pi systems.

Even 24/96 is pushing it.
24/96 DSP speakers in the most EXTREME conditions are limited to 21bits.
And beyond 48Khz it's really the quality of the DAC and supporting circuits itself that matters more than the sample rate.

I only have 2 sources connected at the moment, and this is what the display reads on the 861v4:
DISH MHR Movie2 96K (Trified) HDDVD MHR Music6 96K (Discrete)
Both sources set to PCM.
These are the settings on the HD621: Audio Output: Smartlink/MMHR MHR Connection: Smartlink Linear PCM: 6 Ch Dolby Digital 5.1: Yes ACC (unchecked): No DTS 5.1 Ch: Yes Output Rate 2x (96K): Yes MHR: Yes
DSP Presents for both DISH and HDDVD: 2ch Music: Trifield M/ch Music: Dicrete 2ch Movie: PLII Movie M/ch Movie: Cinema
From what I've read here and on the manual, these settings should be correct. So I'm not sure why, even when watching an HBO or HDNET program I'm not getting Cinema or Discrete as I expected (these being multi-channel programming).
Any ideas what I'm doing wrong?

Typically Sat/Cable boxes will not Decode to MultiChannel PCM (That is something new with Bluray/HDDVD Players for Receivers that had HDMI in but no High-Res Decoders). So if you set a Cable/Sat Box to PCM your going to be switching it from 5.1 Dolby Digital to 2.0 PCM Dolby Prologic. I suggest you put it back to BitStream.

Hi again,
Long time no post.
Here in the UK our SAT boxes (Sky TV) don't decode to multi-channel PCM at all, only out 2 channel PCM via HDMI, so to get the bitstream we have to hook up an optical cable as well.
You need to have a good read of your SAT (DISH) user guide to find out what options you have.
What make/model of SAT receiver do you have?

Hi Carl - The Dish box I have is a ViP22k ( http://www.dishnetwork.com/receivers/hd/default.aspx). My options are PCM/Dolby Digital, Dolby Digital only, PCM only & Line mode, RF mode. Before getting the HD621 I connected the Dish receiver to the 861 with an optical to coaxial adapter and was getting multi-channel, now I only get 2 channel audio, and hence Trifield instead of Cinema. I guess the only way to get multi-channel back is using the adapter again, not really what I was hoping when I got the "magic box".

There is actually little value hooking your sat box audio to HD621. As carl suggested it may not even support bitstream (dolby digital) over HDMI. For most customers HDMI is hooked to a tv with 2 speakers. So when they say pcm. It means 2 channels.
Keep in mind for sat/cable, toslink low bitrate dolby digital is "high end". They focus on quantity rather than quality for joe six pack.
The only audio that benifits from HD621 is a Bluray or hddvd player.

I've trawled the net and it looks like this unit (like most) does not decode DD. There are some that do, PANASAT I think, but even then the specifications are not very clear. I assume the optical input on your 861 is alread in use, hence the need for an adaptor. Regards, Carl
