No new info, but it's pretty good to have confirmation that it is still in the works from someone who seems to know what they're talking about. That's considerably better than deafening silence.

Thanks for posting that evdberg. I have the following comments:
1) I'm glad that Meridian has responded with an update, both for the Trifield fix and for apodizing.
2) I am also pleased that Meridian is going to fix this for all broken implementations, including 568.2 and pre-v4 861s. Kudos for that.
3) I am disappointed though that there is no date, given that it has been over six months since the embarrassing admission that Trifield width has broken for years.
4) It really couldn't have been that hard to post an update on this forum. I know Meridian has a strict "no Hitchhiking" policy, but it does waive this rule when it suits.
5) Why have there been "remarkably few comments from dealers"? What this says to me is that dealers aren't setting up their client systems optimally (if they are setting them up properly or at all), because if they were, they would have spotted broken Trifield, not us.

And to re-cap, I think the following sums up the current status. Please would anyone correct me if they know otherwise.
Status unknown 568.2 (v2 firmware) I can confirm that Trifield Width works with an original 568.2MM running 2.12M/v238m

I also don't buy the "we must check that the fix doesn't break anything else" argument. At HH2 it was pretty much implied that the Trifield process was a separate one with derivation of the centre via some "black art". Unless it uses firmware modules from other processes they should not be affected.

I know Meridian has a strict "no Hitchhiking" policy, but it does waive this rule when it suits. I do not understand this at all. Instead of ignoring us (mildly said), they should embrace us. If they want to test new or fixed feature, they can ask for beta tester here. They would get a lot of useful feedback in no-time. They should acknowledge the fact that lots of Meridian customer are helped here and it does not cost them a dime. Personally I find they should support us (and George) instead.

When Meridian switched over to the new method of presets. That means the G68ADV and 861V4 (for its entire product life cycle (i.e. a product being sold) The Trifield Width has never worked). I suspect many dealers didn't even know what this parameter should even do on this new class of processors. This still bothers me. Especially where it still seems broken in the 861V6. Are they saying they didn`t have time to finish testing this on the 861V6 because of other projects either

I suspect the vast majority of Meridian dealers and owners don't know Trifield width is broken; hence the lack of comments. If an owner doesn't know its broken, why would he call his dealer. If a dealer doesn't know its broken, why would he call Meridian? If a dealer knows its broken and there is no fix, why would he call his customers and tell them?
Trifield is synonymous with Meridian; in fact, it is probably the single most important reason I haven't strayed from the fold in nearly 15 years. It really needs to be fixed.

In the 861V6 thread I comment that Trifield width does not work in 861V6. I cannot argue that it should not work. The command certainly shows it working even though nothing happens. I disagree that everyone who uses Trifield considers the lack of Trifield width a problem. I have used Trifield for going on ten years now. I last experimented with Trifield width about 8 years ago when it definitely worked. I could easily hear what it did but changing the width did not make the sound better. My Trifield sound with 861V6 is extremely precise in layering and placement from side to side across the front. Believe me, nothing is broken with what I am hearing!

I think it's fair to say that Meridian chose a good default width.

I think it's fair to say that Meridian chose a good default width. Probably true for folks with identical front 3. I would love to play with the width adjustment.

Can someone clarify something I've never been sure about: if you have surrounds, do they get involved with Trifield? Or does it only use the front three? (I thought it only used the front, but read something once to the contrary.)
