1. Yes I have confirmed numerous times that it handles FLAC 5.1 channels 24/96 with no problem.
2. Yes 2ch 16bit-24bit 44.1/48KHZ gets apodized by the HD621.
3. Yep, 2 ch 24/96 is no problem via HDMI (I have not tested coax)

NO, IMHO it does not have an interface for music yet that would rival your SB/Sonos. It might come later, but right now, No. What it is so far is a file/directory based player and it needs your TV to show you that directory/playlist.
Yes it does indeed replace your BD player.
Yes it treats 5.1ch FLAC exactly the same as it treats other 2ch music files. The HD621 instantly knows it's 6ch and you get wonderful sound. You can make a playlist of your DVDA/FLAC5.1 and handle them exactly as you handle your MP3 collection. The interface is the file/directory interface. When you load a .M3U playlist you can go up/down in that list with menu button and arrows.
We scream atm for an iPad/iPod/iPhone control/app but we think that they will atleast do a HTTP control this year. But there is no guarantee.
And for those setting it up for the first time. Use NFS/TCP if you want the best speed and reliability. And load the newest firmware from the site as it has the latest fixes. Also it contains an auto update feature that you can enable later on. Crion, Thanks for responding. Re: 1) FLAC 5.1 You mentioned previously that your 5.1 FLAC are not from DVDA. The deal clincher here for me is that the method noted of 'backing up' my DVDA will yield the same 5.1 FLAC that works with Dune. In other words, are all 5.1 FLAC the same ? Googling around that isn't too clear. My plan will be to test the SB+/G68/8k against Dune/HD621/g68/8k. I guess I can compare Dune without HD621 also against SB+ for direct view. If the Dune and SB+ are equivalent in SQ then the Dune is the way to go to get the filters. This is a route that means no extra box count compared to the adding of video processing units to achieve the same SPDIF/HDMI conversion.

+1 NFS setup.
The MyMovies interface is easy to set up, even on the mac.
If this helps anyone, I'm putting together a QNAP 905 Pro Turbo NAS with 8*WD RE4 2T drives via cat6 into the Dune/Popcorn/AppleTV.
EDIT: make sure when you buy your Dune player you ask Mike T (USA distributor) to ensure you have the silent new optical drive and that he loads the most recent beta fw -- he's a good guy and he supports his product personally. Slightly off topic. But I bought a QNAP TS-809U 9 months ago for work. Oh my god what a piece of crap. One controller went belly up (loosing the whole RAID 6 Array) and getting support from these guys is a total nightmare. I had to go buy another one today because I think it will be weeks before they resolve it (which I believe they will but I know it will be slow). I could go on and on but it's a bit off topic. George! Pray tell what did you get instead? I still have time to get something else although my RE4 WD 2T drives are already here. EDIT: did you not use the QNAP BACKUP when your raid6 array went bellyup? If so were you able to retrieve your data? I've heard firsthand accounts of this QNAP and all experiences were very positive. What else is out there with 8bays and those speed specs? PS FLAC ripped correctly is FLAC ripped correctly which is bitperfect at 2.0 and 5.1.

If you go to: http://dune-hd.com/firmware/bdprime3/optical_drive_fw/ There are instructions on how to upgrade the optical drive firmware yourself. Its simply a case of burning the update onto a DVD and inserting it into the drive to apply the update. If you have version HJBQ, then its strongly recommended you upgrade to HJ95, as the latter version causes playback crashes and picture distortion. I had to upgrade mine. They are using a new superior batch of optical drives of late, at least that is what I was told.

So i would expect it to have the new batch of drive in it. My drive is not noisy, but i did note the firmware was not the one they recommend on their web site, so i changed it to the version they recommend. I understand the Dune is provided by an American company called HDI? However i think they are made in Hong Kong.

Hi Nick, I can test a sample of your FLAC 5.1 file if you want. Just a 5 MB file or something via mail. That way we can be certain about this definately. I have not heard or experienced incompatible FLAC files so I'll be glad to test it for you.

That would be really helpful. I'll drop you a pm about a file xfer option. Each track is ~190MB and I'm not sure if I can trim them with my .WAV editor.
If this all works then it gives all of us an option for keeping our lovely DVD-A alive at very little outlay for when our M players eventually fail and there is no repair.
Remember, M no longer support DVD-A on their current disc players. Sooloos does not yet do multi-channel or MLP and no official suggestion yet that it will. And versus 370 it'll be a very interesting debate about cost/benefit.
cheers
Nick

OK....Results are in. 5.1 MLP track saved as a 5.1 .WAV then converted to 5.1 FLAC and MP3Tagged. Crion has played this via Dune 3.0 into an HD621 via HDMI Dune screen G68 shows Music and Discrete and it produces 5.1 96/24 music. G68 display As far as I know this is the only product to do this so far. i.e. play your DVDA content from a media server in all it's hi-res 5.1 glory. This means that for those of us that moved away from playing silver discs onto media servers, we can now have the DVDA included in that process. Good news I'd say. Crion, many thanks for your help here.

Awesome. I just have to learn how to do this also.
Part of my problem is I only get bits and pieces of time to sort this all out- been a busy time with kids and wife- which is a good thing.
Last night I discovered I had an EDID issue with my radiance and dune- for some reason it was set to a custom EDID. If I put it back to its default, everything was fine. Its now playing BRs I put on a USB hard drive and attached. And a very first blush look at the video quality, to me it looks identical to the Oppo- and the audio is coming out in high res as well and I am sure the decoding is as good as you get in the Oppo.
Im having an issue with 24p playback- Ill see if I cant get that sorted out today as well as an issue with seeing a NAS drive I setup as a tester. I can see it fine with my winxp but I cant see it with my mac (anymore) nor does the dune see it. Ive gotten used to truly plug and play devices and this Dune is certainly not one of these. However, I suspect with some more effort it will pay dividends.
Best regards, Jerry Main System: 861v6, DSP8000s in corners, DSP7000s Center and Sides, 1-9 humans.

Related to this topic , the latest version of DVD Audio Extractor now includes DVD-A extraction as standard : http://www.castudio.org/dvdaudioextractor/One way or another , as Nick has said , its becoming a little easier to archive our precious DVD-A collections . ~~M~~

If not maybe we should do a group kustom buy on some buttons

Thanks Manus, dvdaudioextractor is a little nicer than DVDAExplorer as it does all DVD formats and goes straight to FLAC so is quicker to do. However, the latter is free; the former is $32.50. Have they been good with updates and improvements ? I might just extract that PT DVD soundtrack whilst I'm at it As for MSR buttons.....Dune is a lot easier to engrave than Soooolooooos

It is a nice simple GUI for a change which I like It has a nice feature for extracting 5.1 tracks from DVD to 2-channel for portable/ car scenario too . Until I get a Dune or something similar I wont have 5.1Flac playback so will probably just rip stereo from DVD-As for time being ? There again I could rip em all and just save to a 5.1 folder for the future ? I have it for the month's trial so will see how it goes . Agree with you that its a big miss on M's part not to have either 5.1 or mlp on Sooloos especially when had the 880 Server ready to go almost a decade ago now ?? During that chat we had with Rob from Sooloos at HH2 it became apparent that everybody wants to centralise their music collection(s) whether 2.0 or 5.1 and whatever the format . Best ~M~
