Carl

I noticed the same thing on studying the diagrahms of the different comms cables on the wiki info.
I don't know enough about BNC comms to know what works.
So will a BNC work on one end of an S cable ( if you change it as such)?
I think we may need to start a new thread on soldering and ask the "experts" on the board.

Hi Joe,

I can confirm that the DIN and BNC speaker comms signals are compatible and that there is no distinction with BNC comms leads with respect to their usage as master and slave.

One can either use a custom DIN to BNC adaptor (M sell them) or just cut of the DIN plug and fit a BNC connector.

I did this to connect my 861v4 SPDIF+DIN when I upgraded my front DSPs (slave - left/right & master - centre) which only had SpeakerLink and BNC comms.

For me there was no benefit in getting an AC11 and the above was a lot more cost affective wink

Regards,
Carl

LOL Ronnie.

I don't have a price, as I was supplied some FOC with my order for the DSPs.

Basical all they are is a very short lead with a BNC at one end and a DIN at the other.

Very slack indeed!!! Your Dealer must not have been on the Premium Reseller's Training Course Yet wink

These DIN to BNC Converters are EXACTLY what is needed to sort out these Comms issues. Certainly easier than Soldering etc. and also better than my 511 Patch panel idea mention above

Think we should get a Part Number on these so that they can easily be requested from Dealers.

Of course, why these aren't even mentioned in the AC12 Manual is yet another story. Would just simplify the process so much and eliminate the frustration. Why Meridian themselves or the Dealers don't just jump in here and mention the solution is of course, beyond me.

I enquired about some of these converters a while ago and M said they did not have them anymore as they only made up a btach or two, its a very easy thing for your dealer to make up though....

Well for $750 dollars M need's to either make up a new batch of those S comms to BNC converters and include one with each AC12 OR do a firmware change to make the S Comms work IMHO.

FWIW, DIN - BNC adaptors from the factory clearly do exist as literally just this morning I received one (+ a 5m DIN - BNC S lead) in factory packaging to go with my nice new 7200HC. Very useful little widget.

Andy

PS thanks for the remainder Carl!

Andy - what you have there is not a converter it's a replacement S lead with din plug at one end and BNC at the other - does the job perfectly if you can run another lead. However, a converter would be a short (<0.5m) din socket to bnc lead so that you could plug the existing s5 straight in without further ado.

5m DIN - BNC S lead - I had one of those too with my 7200.

General comment:- It's all a little odd/dissappointing that M seems to be missing or losing some of it's usual system elegance in all of this. This whole issue of cables and extra boxes for DSP's, extra processing boxes to get media players into HD621's etc (simply cannot be good practice in a Meridian world)

....it is so far from WAF friendly !!!

I wonder just how many potential sales to (otherwise) very enthusiastic clients are negatively impacted by all this ?

Rgds,
Nick

Complete new system sales unaffacted mostly.
Upgrade sales affected, It's simply not plug-and-play anymore. SPDIF will be continued be used for the most 95% of the M population for many years ahead. That whole base will either continue the hassle or move on..
