There's a change to the internal fuse which supplies the i80 as well as a firmware update. The early serial number (first few hundred) F80s were restricted in how much juice they could supply for charging. It was only when mine went back and had that addressed as an aside to the main work being done, that the i80 could charge my v5.5 iPod. The firmware had been brought bang up to date prior to then, and it still couldn't charge the v5.5 (but it did allow full iPod control, as the original was pre i80)

Thanks George, It must be that fuse because although my 1st gen iPhone indicates charging the big battery symbol has not moved and the phone has been in the dock for hours now. Probably the juice is not enough to charge.
