I just spoke to tech support at M USA and the user guide is in error on example #5 for a slave pair of speakers-- the comms lead out of the AC12 to the first speaker should be an S lead and not an M lead. That is great news as rewiring or soldering new connectors for the the comms leads will now not be necessary.

Hi Joe, Thanks for the confirmation of this typo. Looks like Meridan's user-guide is up to the normal standard Regards, Carl

I can confirm that SpeakerLink-connected 7200s can daisy chain to a D2500 via SPDIF. I have this setup too with 861.4 , I hope theres no sting in the tail with V6 ~M~
Mostly harmless. Comfortably numb.

Having just taken possesion of an AC12 I am impressed with the perceived quality. it's a small, discrete metal box that is surprisingly heavy. I haven't had a chance to hook it up yet but the above comments about the manual error are welcome as I need it to drive my rear pair via a buried S5 lead

That is great news as rewiring or soldering new connectors for the the comms leads will now not be necessary. I think they are wrong and the manual may be right. I just tried to connect my old dsp5000 (mk1 - din only) to an ac12 using an S5 lead - result nothing, rear speakers don't power up. So I tried a DIN M5 I happened to have spare - result 1 speaker powers up; its mate stays off! Replaced the M5 with a lead with a BNC at one end and a slave din at the other - success; both speakers power up and work. I'm going to contact my dealer over this at it sounds just wrong and maybe I have a dodgy AC12 particularly as connecting via std M5 doesn't work correctly. Grrr. GP

You may have tried this- but did you try a second (different) S lead as your "buried" S lead may be faulty.

GP Another question: did you use the Master or Slave BNC (I'm thinking you probably used the Master side). I wonder if it matters with BNC (I'm not fimiliar with BNC comms as I don't have any on my speakers ) Could you check both master and slave BNC and report back? Thanks
Also when I spoke with the M tech it sounded like he hadn't actually tried the unit but said it didn't sound correct in the manual and it should be S leads for slave speakers. That would make sense to me also and make it simple to connect all non speakerlink speakers up with the AC12 because there are all S leads now except for the Master speaker cable run. Just frustrating for me as it will mean cable changes or soldering M connectors in place of S connectors (I'm assuming that can be done as the wire looks the same). If it indeed requires an M lead I wonder if M could fix that with a firmware update to the unit.

Yep I had to use the master BNC to make it work. I trust my old S5 since it worked fine on my 861v4 only a couple of days earlier. I'm hoping that M (via my dealer) can clarify the issue and either make the unit behave with an S5 or provide an S5 to BNC converter otherwise cable hacking will be required

I know I've said this before, but.........................
Meridian's installed base of DSP is likely >>95% Non-Speakerlink
They obviously would like as many of these people to Upgrade to an 861v6
Most of these Users have "hidden" cabling, which makes changing cables very difficult at best
So..............Why oh why make it so difficult for them by
a) Not testing and optimizing the AC12 for these users
b) Make sure they get the Manual correct to reflect how the box should work
Shooting themselves in the foot if you ask me........

An optional SPDIF board for 861v6 would probably sell them faster. Make it easy!
DSP8000SE, DSP7200SEHC, DSP5200SE sides, DSP7200SE rears, 861v8, 210, Sim2 Ultranero 4, Stewart Cinecurve 2.35:1, XEIT CM-5E Anamorphic lens, Dune HD Duo Cinema 8K and Wireworld Platinum 48G HDMI -> UHD722 -> Shunyata Omega Ethernet. Shunyata/Furutech power-cables/filters. SR Master Fuse@861v8. Uptone Etherregen with 10MHz OCXO clock.
