Stacey,

Your quote, "Room correction is working for me. I have re-done it many times trying different positions, different mics, different crossovers, etc."

What difference did you find changing the mic? Did you use an RS SPL as one of the tests and how did that compare to one of the others? and the effects on the filters.

Thanks,

M.

I would also be interested in the affect of the mic, but just so you know, I spoke with someone at Meridian USA who told me the RC proceedure will calibrate itself for any mic and therefore almost any mic will work and the RS SPL meter should work just fine.

Best regards,
Jerry

Was the computer that you were having problems with a Dell laptop? If so they all behave poorly with the new software. The fix is to use a USB to serial adaptor. For some wierd reason it works fine like that. I had the same issues with my laptop. We need a pocket PC app. for idian now that would be cool. maybe a mic on board for full on sweetness.

Room correction working now on my Sony lap top. As explained earlier the laptop would run the setup ok but kept dropping the serial link with the room correction. Despite changes to the bios and OS nothing would do the trick. The laptop was originally running win2k, upgrading to winXP improved things, but the link was lost intermittently. After getting a USB to serial adaptor it now works like a dream. Cheers for the advice.

Peter

My experience with the RC program is exactly like PWM's. In fact I also use a Sony laptop to do all my a/v downloads/fuploads, and the Sony doesn't want to talk to the 861 only for RC.

I had to lug my HP desktop and monitor over into my a/v room to setup and run the RC program. My Sony runs with Windows ME, and the HP with 98'.

Anyway, everyone is really going to like the V4 upgrade, and RC is like icing on the cake which further refines the sound in your enviroment. [Linked Image from softronix.com]

The only negative to this whole thing is that there still is the channel dropout issue which is not prone only to analog speakers.........I think we may have reached the end of the line for sonic improvements with the 861. [Linked Image from softronix.com]

Incidentally, the best way for me to describe the improvements with just V4 running is that everything is much more focused. Then you add RC into the mix, and the mud is removed from the bass which then cleans up the mids.

It's also pretty interesting to see how each speaker interacts with the room given the graphs M provides for you. I have a soffit running down the entire left side of my room due to the hvac duct work. The response of the speakers on that side (7.1 channels)is different from the right, and the RC application renders then more alike. The graph enables you to view a split screen of before/after so that you can view the changes.

Stacey & Others with 861v4,

Did you find a good improvement wrt sonics on using room correction? (and maybe compared with and without room correction wrt 2 Ch/HT)

I think an upgrade from 568 to 861 will happen soon for me now [Linked Image from softronix.com]

Cheers,
Kishore

Dennis,
What is the "channel dropout" issue you mention in your post?

At times a channel or more may dropout, and the only way to resolve that is by switching off the unit from the rear panel. This also occured before the v4 upgrade.

Watched "Road To Perdition" last night and the sonics were just fabulous. Having the ability to utilize the entire LFE channel (120 hz xover) is an improvement in my system vs throwing away a lot of the signal. The upper bass that my LFE subs reproduce can be very startling at times with huge dynamic range.

The reason I asked you about channel dropout was because I have had a similar problem, but only after the v3 upgrade. I did not get v3 until 2 months ago and had no problems before then. In my system one channel (l,r front, or center or l,r rear) does not come on when coming out of standby. I thought it was unique to my system and it has only happened 3 times. As you report, each time powering off from the rear solves the problem.
Has this been discussed by others on this forum? If so, I somehow missed it.

Folks,
after spending so much time with your new room corrction toy - dont' forget to listen to sime music :-)

acoustic problems correction is more important than equipment quality.

i beleive that above certain equipment quality level you can make any system sound whatever you want - just by acoustical treatment/electronic room correction.

Cheers

You don't need the new speaker software for RC, but you should get it as soon as you can.
