Meridian's core competency is signal processing. They are at the top of their game in that respect. But they make a full line of products from sources to speakers. Do they lisence their speaker technology? I have never heard of any speaker IP from Meridian. That type of news usually comes from others. Will Meridian ever partner with a company whose core competency is speaker development?

Beg to differ. I would say that M's biggest competence is holistically in building DSP loudspeakers. DSP is a subset of that that also applies to players and processors.

The speakers are based on the highest levels of competence in physical construction, psycho-acoustics, materials, etc etc

Do you feel that other manufacturers have better competence in this area ? If so, out of interest...who ?

Better? But, at least on a par are Wilson Benesch, B&W to name just a few.

Have to confess the aesthetics of M's speakers don't bowl me over

Meridian has mastered the art of audio processing and integration. That's why their sources, processors, and DSP speaker products are at the top of their game. Can you say the same for their floor standing speakers?

Oh, what floor standing speakers?

I suspect M would argue that they don't need to develop their own loudspeaker drivers because their DSP technology corrects shortcomings in the existing drivers that they buy in.

It was a rheotrical question. Aside from their wall speakers, Meridian does not even have a line of speakers.

Yes, I think there was some agreement on this in connection with the discussion with the passionate advocate of Magico about 10 months ago (I think he was subsequently banned for intemporance). He was criticising Meridian for having out of date drivers.

I am not trying to bash Meridian. Just making a point... Meridian is not a speaker company. In fact if they source out (buy in) their drivers, then doesn't that speak for itself?

Maybe I should say driver rather than speaker. They must design their cabinets. But not the drivers?

But doesn't that imply that there only needs to be one driver ever built and all else falls back on the electronics?

That simply isn't true.
