I've decided that I am going to try to find a second-hand 808.2. If anyone is interested in doing a private sale rather than a trade-in please PM me.

Shame it's not an 808i.2.

When I bought my 808i.2 I emailed a few local dealers asking if anyone had an ex-demo one.

A few turned up and bought one from a dealer nearby. Might be worth a try.

808's should start turning up more frequently and more of them as dealers & owners start sell/trade out their .2 making way for their incoming .3.

Best,
J

Precisely the premise of my inquiry. Should have pointed out that I am US based. In my conniving brain I just figured there might be folks who plan to move out of 808.2 who would rather sell privately and then negotiate a deal with their dealer off full retail than do the trade-in.

For example, as I recall the trade-in cost for moving from 808.2 to .3 is $12.5K. Let's say your dealer would give you 20% off the list, then the OOP cost is $10K. Alternatively, sell the 808.2 privately for the difference between list and the trade-in amount($20K less $12.5K = $7.5K), and then get 20% of full retail and save $1,500. Even if your dealer will only give you 10% off you would still save $750. Win win!

Boy, that's a lot of assumptions about dealer discounts and the value of a used 808.2 now that the 808.3 has been introduced.

Sure, that's why I started the comment with 'FOR EXAMPLE'! Lots of assumptions doesn't mean I'm wrong, nor right, for that matter. Broader point is that it may make more sense to sell privatley and then buy new, than take advantage of the trade-in - but that will depend, of course, on resale value and the extent to whcih dealers are willing to give a discount. Bit like buying a new car, eh!

Peter-Tyson have now updated this as an 808i.2 (which is consistent with the RRP that they are quoting)
