There's one other aspect about the new iPad that is potentially a benefit to Meridian.

It's possibly one of the first control devices ever launched that makes the MSR+ look small...

Sooloos, Roon, G series (with LPS upgrade), 800 series (with LPS upgrade), HD621, AC200, Prime and PS, DSPs old and new.

Purdeys, Moke, Leica, 'Blad. Only the best.

Ronnie Your right, I could just leave my imac on 24/7, Its my ripping station anyway. With the imac on I could then used the airport express dongle's to each system? I think there only limitation is they wont pass 24/96.

Of the Mac Mini, Airport Express and Apple TV, is the only one that supports 96/24 the Mini?

As far as I can tell it is.
It's also a pain if you want to play back 16/44 and 24/96, because you'd have to go into the audio settings to change between the two, or let the mac up/down sample etc.

I eventually settled on 16/44 in the Mini, having my 518 take it to 24/44 and then letting the 568 take it to 24/88.

I only have ripped CD content on the Mini though.

With all this discussion on the merits of a Mac Mini alongside iPad, I would point out that the Mac Mini server (with 2x 500Gb drives, 4Gb RAM and 2.53Ghz Intel Core2Duo processor) would make an awesome video/audio server.

Sooloos for the rest of us...

The server is a good machine, but you'd be paying a lot for the Server software that wouldn't be used.

Hi George,

SSD = solid state drive. Like a HDD but no discs to spin up. Uses less power and runs cool. Have seen my pal's PC running Win 7 with an SSD and it boots in a matter of seconds. Apps open really quickly, no lag on menu's etc.

iPad....Looks very interesting for all the comments above. I think M will have to embrace this rather than compete with it. Exactly how I am not sure. Certainly looks like the answer to the issue 99% of us have with the static/wired screen of Sooloos.

cheers

Rgds,
Nick

+1

The couple of times I have played with Sooloos, I've been wanting to give it a 2 fingered gesture - in the nice sense of the term. With iDevice its built in and not subject to (so many) legal wrangles.

Think though that with the Sooloos interface being so blistering fast, it will be interesting to see how it is affected on a third party device where lack of direct control may be enough to detract from the benefits of the UA.

Is the Sooloos screen capacitive?

Edit: That's a dumb question, isn't it? Of course it's not?
