The HD621 has been available for a few months now. On this forum, I read about people having trouble setting up the HD621, or dealing with various bugs and glitches. A friend of mine who recently acquired one has told me of occasional sound or video dropouts that require him to reboot his system. Needless to say, this does not amuse him when he is in the middle of watching a movie with his family. For this reason, he has found the HD621 to be a little frustrating, and he wonders whether he should have acquired a system that was more consistent.
My question: how happy are people with the HD621? How often have you had a glitch that disrupted an entertainment? If you have experienced glitches, have you found the benefits of the HD621 to far outweigh the disruptions?
Thank you for your responses.

Problems: Before firmware 1.05 installation the HDMI video output was blanking intermittently (monthly?) requiring a hard reboot of HD621 to clear. Since V1.05 there have been no issues.
Setup: Yes, Meridian should have written the manual a lot better. It's even unclear which SPDIF outputs connect to which on the G Series.
Do the benefits outweigh the problems? Yes, as now I can watch BD with hi-res sound.
I can't comment on apodising benefits. Other will!

We still have the issue that the firmware is only available up to 1.04 on the Meridian website. Emailed M direct but after about a month received the usual email back, refer to your dealer. This I have not done at present - thought I would wait and do the G68 apodizing firmware upgrade at the same time - haha
As far as my own HD621 is concerned, I have had only a few times when I needed to power down, it has never caused any problems while watching a film etc.

Unequivocal yes.
The HD621 shipped with the 1.05 firmware so I haven't had any lockup issues.
Setup was confusing, but once it fired up it was an immediate transformation.

No issues since V1.05 User manual is not very clear esp. SPDIF to process connections. M-config does not setup sources correctly, this has given many people grief. No DD/DTS decoding, this still bugs me. Summary: Happy yes but it good be better. Regards, Carl

I believe you use the Meridian app to check the FW. Im going to do it now. I have the blanking issue and I have to restart it every few weeks. (I suspect Im using the older FW). Aside from that it works perfectly and I have to say I was surprised with how easy it was to install.

How does one check the firmware version? Open Mconfig, connect HD621, select Identify from the File menu.
