My guess is that G series updates were just maintenance updates, just enough to add new speakerlink connector and possibly a few regulatory changes, but not anything requiring a significant amount of work, such as adding in two more input channels as per mmhr. Whatever has been done to the 8xx series, will ultimately filter down to the G/another series, but not right now.

The new unit supports all the old S/PDIF coax inputs as well as SpeakerLink and MMHR (8-channel discrete digital). It will also have a complete set of SpeakerLink outputs and balanced analogue outputs. Michael, Can you explain a little on the balanced analogue outs ? Do you mean a OA18 card ? IS that default or optional ?

Can anyone tell me why MMHR is not included in the new G68. It seems like a huge omission. I thought they were moving to cat6 across the board. I mean, why go through all this trouble with excluding digital outs for existing DSP speakers to move to cat5 and on the input side you skip it and say, - Hey keep your 3xSPDIF???!
It makes absolutely no sense!
This will just grief the existing customerbase, which I thought was important in these times!? Well, perhaps the old architecture is not really 8 channel ? One on the of the last DSP's makes 8 out of 6 ?

The program will be for a limited time, but it will be on the order of months, not weeks, so no worries. Depending on the $$, hopefully enough months to allow adequate 'funding development'

I read somewhere that new DSP 430's will be fitted with Speakerlink. These units, as they are in wall units, are easilly accesible from the inside.
So I am wondering if Meridian is offering an upgrade? Has anybody got a link to where the DSP430 is mentioned?

I have a number of issues with the 861v6 upgrade path:
1) There is going to be a large number of 861 owners who have no interest in the new analogue input card.
2) I'm pretty sure the reason that the analogue input card is still there is because MRC needs an analogue input.
3) "Months" to upgrade/trade-in is not enough. Two years might be more appropriate.
4) There is absolutely a need for SpeakerLink *and* SPDIF output cards in the same 861.

VK,
I have to agree on point 4. It makes no sense for an existing DSP owner to have to use add on boxes to have the functionality they currently enjoy. I also agree with Ronnie that additional SPDIF interfaces between the processor and speakers are best avoided.
On point 1, I disagree though. Just a personal viewpoint, but I'm sure I'm not the only one who still enjoys vinyl, so the upgraded A>D stage is welcome.
Cheers
George

Everyone -- and it even has that new Meridian smell. Apodizing filters (or "apodising" for those blokes beyond the pond) are better than what was in the 808.2. Michael www.audiohigh.comSmell? Actually, what I want to clarify is the apodiZing filters on the 808.3, and throughout the Meridian product line. According to the Meridian Jan. 7 press release: "like the 808.2 before it, 808.3 employs Meridian`s proprietary DSP based ‘apodising` up-sampling system." This sounds like that aspect is unchanged; it certainly doesn't sound like "better filters" (or one would think they would have mentioned it). Can you elaborate on what has changed in the filtering? Also, the DSP8000 (and DSP7200) Data Sheets on Meridian's site refer to the speakers including the "new digital upsampling filter system". Is the filtering the same as in the 808.3 (or 808.2)? If not, how is it different? Finally, how does one best use a phono preamp with the DSP speakers? It seems counter-productive (and sound degrading) to convert A/D in the 808, and then back to D/A in the speakers. Is there some way to go straight analogue from the phono to the amplifiers in the DSPs (which are analogue, after all). Thanks!

The DSP speakers use digital crossovers.

It seems that the speakers only have 2 types of inputs, both digital: 1) SpeakerLink, 2) SPDIF.

User a Meridian controller (think pre amp) to convert the Analogue to digital first.
No Darling, I've had it months!
