Sorry Gianni, I'm struggling with the one.

1) Analogue --> A2D(@48khz) --> apodizing --> (96khz) -->

2) Analogue --> A2D(@96khz) --> (96khz) -->

Option 2 is always going to be better.

May be I'm just missing what you saying blush

Carl

Agree....I'd not expect to need to apodize an analogue input if it was native 96/24 done by the ADC processor.

In the "G62" scenario, the A2D would be in the G62 while the apodization would occur in the DSP speakers D2A process, like it or not. I'm not trying to compare one against the other, just imagine the inevitable data flows and consider what that use-cases G62 would have to be designed for.

I don't follow this. If you ADC and get a 96/24 signal it will not be upsampled/apodized later in the DSP's. Any native 96/24 signal is completely out os scope for the filters (unless of course you have a muddle of a setup whereby HS=N just to get the filters in the DSP's)

Assuming that this "G62" has 96/24 ADCs fitted, then it would be sending a 96/24 native digital signal to the processor, which does not require upsampling/apodising.

Apodising works by reducing the pre-ringing from standard sample rate digital audio that occurs when A2Ding at (48khz) and has to use very steep filters which introduce this pre-ringing. When A2Ding at 96khz, you don't need these steep filters thus pre-ringing is not an issue and hence there is no need to apodise.

Carl

That makes no sense. As Carl said, the A2D will be 24/96 to begin with and there is nothing to upsample/apodize.

Anything involving A2D is a compatibilty option and not a premium solution.

I stand corrected of course. I didn't understand that apodizing didn't apply to hi-rez (24/96) sampled sources.

That G62 just got a little simpler.

Hi Gianni,

Glad we are all on the same page again wink
Don't forget, if you're traveling past my place again you're very welcome
to drop in for in for a chat/refreshments ... oh and to play a track or two.

Regards,
Carl.

How does the G08.2 compare to the 808.2?

On a side-note, the whole time everybody is talking about the Meridian filter being an apodizing filter. However, Meridian calls it, and I quote from their documentation; "a filter with ‘apodizing-like` qualities". I have done quite some research lately and it is impossible to make a filter that is both without pre-echo and apodizing. Since the filter in Audio Remaster is a true apodizing filter, it turns out impossible to change it to remove the pre-echo. I guess M says their filter to have apodizing-like qualities because using minimum phase technique the phase shift will be minimal in the lower frequencies.

They didn't bring an AC12 with them to CES so I couldn't get a photo. Details are in my other post.

While I have heard a G08.2 play a track or two at a dealer, and it did indeed sound good, in no way have I listened to it in a "critical" manner or whilst comparing it to the other options

Obviously also, the G08.2 does accept Inputs and therefore it only Apodizes the Internal CD

My comments above comparing the 808.2i to my HD621 refers to extended listening over a period of a few weeks. This was done in my System and in my main Room and using Music that was familiar to me

As a result, I had a good baseline and time enough to check all the settings and make sure that each option was optimized
