Nick,

The 8ks may have differential (balanced) circuits, whereas the G68 (at least mine) is signle-ended. The signle-ended circuit is more susceptible to noise and therefore would respond moreso to a power cable than the differential circuit.

Nick,

I am guilty as charged!

But seriouly if you are making reference equipment and cost is not the issue, then why not use the best circuits? I don't think anyone would disagree that differential circuits have better power supply rejection ratio (and better noise immunity in general) than single-ended circuits.

I must say that I find myself in the camp of hearing no difference from using fnacy power cords. I decided long ago that I'd be far better off spending the cash on room treatments instead. Having said that, I do build my own power cables from good quality commerical parts, not because they sound any different, but because I can customize lengths - this appeals to my obessive-compulsive nature I suppose.

Very sorry I didn't wanted to offend anyone. The thing is I believe that the cable trend has caused the greatest damage to the credibility in the whole audiophile industry.
Eye candy is cool with me. Having great items is more pleasing. But what Meridian taught me is as far as sound quality is concerned, it's not about the looks!
Cheers!

During the installation of my new DSP5200s, the G68 stopped working. The installer (dealer) said that it was suspect for that to happen the way it did and the G68 may have been on its way out. If that is the case, then the power cable test has to be repeated again after getting the G68 repaired.

hmmm?
